just went for a blat through the hanua's and then onto papakura through the gorge.

It's all sweet and dandy untill you hit the quarry (direction = going into pap)

The copius amounts of trucks (i say at least 7) that travel that little strech of road have absolutley decimated it.

1)The road is covered in the film of dirt/dust so is dodgy in the dry will be horendous in the wet.
2) the road is lumpy and uneven in most places and there are some ill fitting patches

3) TAKE HEED THERE ARE HUUUUGE POTHOLES around about 80% of the left handers closer to the papakura end there are heaps of then and they are NOT small either.....

Just a heads up :ride:

eh? Are we talking the same Hunua Gorge? I rode it once and drove it once in the last 6 days. Pot holes on 2 tight left handers right near the end of the gorge (Papakura end). Yes, they are huge.
Rest of the road was fine, although I admit it doesn't take long for trucks to leave crap all over the place. Road surface through most of it is even though.

Yip those are them.. It was just getting a bit bumpy going into some of the other corners..... and there was that shitty patch just passed the slight right hander into the shade.... it's also covered in muddy shit. Before the quarry though the road is awsome and some those tight right handers they resealed are in perfect condition.......lots of fun :Punk: . just some of the potholes come up quickley if you're not aware of them.

Yeah the first time when I wasn't expecting the potholes caught me by surprise, the deep one is smack bang in the centre of the lane.

Oh,is there a quarry on that road? :weird: Like,my father used to service the equipment there over 45 yrs ago,I used to go with him as a little fulla in a 34 Ford V8 pick up,and ride in the Euclid twin engine motor scrapper, look down into the crusher. So there has always been trucks on that road - I ride that road fast, always have, but my bikes have the suspension to take it....and I know what to expect.Saw a bike accident there a couple of years ago at the long corners Manurewa end,he ran wide into a car. It's hard finding the perfect road boy....but learn to enjoy what you do find.

better to take right after the small people settlement, and go through the heights until Clevedon........from there, head to Manukau through manukau heights, coming out at Redoubt Rd.

Saves you heaps of M'way boredom.

The trucks used to load down on the road, the hoppers fed from up in the quarry, the loading area was still there a few years ago,now you cant even see where it was.We used to have the same thing on Waiheke Island, the quarry was on the side of the main road, and trucks loaded from the stock pile and shutes there, you could still take those corners fast, but had to keep your eyes peeled - I was lucky because my XS1 had a hinge in the middle that would allow me to miss all the droppings.

The dust/grit on the road near the quarry isn't too bad in the wet. Theres a few corners more to the hunua end which hardley ever see any sunshine, theres a nice coating of moss growing at the moment, there the ones that are slippery.

that'd be kopu-hikuai :)

1) a bit too much traffic
2) aretrial highway -> a bit of cop possibility
3) too far away (especially with the boring long straight bit to go through)
4) too damn short....too damn short.....just simply too damn short
