Hi there,
My right muffler has started to leak recently and I can feel a loss of some mid range acceleration.
Could I get away with simply welding the hole shut?? Intend to get a replacement muffler later.
Who would be the best person to repair it??
Any idea how much a new muffler will cost?? Or a second hand one from the wreckers??
I can't seem to think of any damage being caused by riding around like this but am I doing any damage by riding with a leaky muffler??
Look at the pic for the leak location (pic not my bike)

Sorted, but it maybe something more serious - is it eating alot of fuel lately...?

Is that leak coming from a weld? Is it actually a hole or a stress crack? Exhaust leaks are easy to weld up as long as the steel is a decent thickness. Depending on where, and how big it is it is, you might be able to do it without removing the exhaust.

Hmm.....even if I had the $160 - I'm not paying that for that piece of Sh*t.....
But thanks for the heads-up

If its on a seem, get it welded, if not get it brased... any weld shop would do for $10 or so...if they charge more go somewhere else.
Surely a member in your area can do it for free... it's a 2 minute job.
Note: it will break again if you weld, brasing will last longer.
I cant see how a crack would release enough back pressure to affect the mid-range?

If you want to pull it off, I can probably weld it up for you, depending on what is left of the metal.

Ummm.......:o My exhaust is supposed to leak - got the same hole - yes it's a man made one on the other side too.....
So that means I have another reason for loss of mid range pull - oh well.....
Maybe it's all in my head - cos the problem occurs at random......
Sorry for the mix-up

If it's a factory feature I'd guess it's to allow water to drain out of the exhaust, thus preventing it rusting it's way out.

What you loose in midrange you gain in top end :devil2:
A small hole like that wouldnt be enough backpressure loss to make a difference at all. Replacing a bolt that fell out of my can and filling the hole did NOT make any difference to my bike when I had my stock can.... Not that it would with an empty can later on
Go get it checked by a mech... all I can reccomend.

It's time for a tune up/service - a few too many 13,000rpm 6th gear rides by an inexperienced rider.....
And as for top end - I'm barely doing 145-150 ..... Others reckon I should be getting more....

nah thats about right. I'd get 160 on a very very very good day and I'm small.
IIRC Mine had them to and dripped - makes sense as its full sealed and colder mornings etc etc so blah blah dont worry about it :)
