Be a wicked ride in that mud..... depends if I get my pipe back in time and I need to spend a fair bit of time on the spanners on my bike...
I've never done an enduro, I don't really understand it either. You have to get in before time and if you go over time... ????

You have to get in before time and if you go over time... ????
Nothing really, you move up from the time you were on, to the time you arrive at, and the difference gets added to your final points. You get DQ'd if you loose over an hour, but you can still keep riding, just you come last in class.
If Scott can ride enduros, then so can you... :p

I'm keen I just have no idea what's involved.....
Is it like all day? (Baby sitting at 6pm)
All I know is you don't start your bike untill the first marshall.
I assume you need a number on your bike. Is that supplied?
Do I need a licence of some sort?
Do I need a pit crew?

I'm keen I just have no idea what's involved.....
Is it like all day? (Baby sitting at 6pm)
Normally 5-6 hours, start at 10-10:40, figure finished by 4pm
All I know is you don't start your bike untill the first marshall.
I assume you need a number on your bike. Is that supplied?
The number is supplied, basically it'll be the minute you start on, there are three riders per minute, eg 20,20A,20B
You start on that minute every section, unless you fall behind. If you fall behind you can't make up time, so if you were on 20 & had to start on 22, you start on 22 from then on.
The special tests are easy as, you roll up & they will say "Go when you are ready", go as fast as you can ( don't roost the helpers ) until you get to the end of the stage, you'll pass a mark before the finish of the stage, so you don't have to worry about someone in front of you when you finish.
Do I need a licence of some sort?
Yep MNZ, or a day license, Bill will know how much :)
Do I need a pit crew?
Nope, but you'll need to refuel & be wise to have clean goggles & some food.
Enjoy, I have to sit this one out, but it'll be an awesome ride.

Just show up and give it at try.. I was pretty hesitant at first, wasn't sure what to do but after one day it's all clear. I love it! Far more interesting than XC racing.
Far better value for money as well.. You're riding on wicked quality tracks from 10AM-4PM(roughly). Give it a go!
I dont think you can buy a day licence for a national event..... could be wrong tho

30th May 2011, 21:37
If you don't have a full license you're not put in the National class, slotted into the Top Trail Rider results. Same diff for the average rider.

You're right, though they run a TTR ( Top Trail Rider ) series in parallel, you race the same event, but don't get national points.

Yep National only so no day licences- you must have a full race licence ($125).
Vin you need to apply for your Licence now and MNZ will fax it through to you so you can race on Sunday. You can phone MNZ on 07-828 7852.
Sorry MNZ rules not the clubs.
BTW- Prodigal son Birchy is returning for this event as is Rory Mead who has picked up a temporary ride in the GNCC series
in the USA for JG Offroad on a Honda. (Where he finished 8th in the XC1 class on Sunday).
Should make for some hard fought racing.... worth coming out for a look.

Don't forget you need to be a member of an associated club to MNZ before you can get a licence, they will check for your club membership card. No card & you'll have to join the host club before allowed to ride.
Club subs range between 50-60 dollars.
So this ride cud cost MNZ lic $125 , Club subs $60, Sign on $40, OUCH!
MNZ year runs from july to end june following year.

Direct from MNZ website:
5.2.5 One Event Licences
One Event Licences can be issued to competitors at Club Events. These Licences
cannot be used at the following events; New Zealand or Island Championships,
Street Racing.
The decision of having One Event Licences available for purchase is that of the host
Club. The Steward of the meeting has jurisdiction to decline an application at his/her
discretion.
The Steward of the meeting must approve the One Event Licence application at the
time of purchase; approval is by way of signing the Licence.

If you can see the amount of mud that is in Riverhead at the moment you will see why.
the tracks are already rutted up with a 6" layer of mud. It looks worse than the pussy pounder last year as its hard enough just walking them.

Oh, talk it up guys.
Fact is that it will be wet and stop trying to pull the wool over every bodies eyes.
If you had made it a TTR event or better still MNZ had relaxed the rules then you would have had another 100 riders participating.
Perhaps a non MNZ operator will start doing enduros if MNZ can't sort their shit out.
Yes I would have wanted to do this event as well.

It's another sunny day at Riverhead, Ken Ring has predicted a fine day on Sunday with the slight chance of an earthquake in the arvo...go softer on your rebound and all will be sweet.
Just had a call from my old mate Steve Crow and the Boobs on Bikes girls are entering, should be an awesome event.

Maybe on the numbers, I know three riders who were going down who now can't & that's not including Vin etc, having said that from memory the last Riverhead enduro I was at with a TTR included didn't blow the world apart with big numbers, that forest has a reputation to well earned to get big numbers I think, it's a shite load of fun, but damn it's not easy.
Kinda curious why you could not have done a Woodhill enduro though :scooter: ( The Whangaruru Enduro was not run by a MNZ affiliated club, well any club really, was a Bennett/Nield event ).

Umm, enduro riders are notorious for bullshit when it comes to how hard any event/ride will be, heck half them would describe a Mt Cook ascent as an easy hill and the other half would say it's a little tricky.
The MNZ/ACC/Dept of Labour situation is worthy of another thread no ? ( I think whilst a good idea on one level it's a very slippery slope looking at what the b****rds did to the Road rider ACC levy ).

The average Joe rider does get the full run down. With all the Enduro's ive competed in there's always a writeup on Silverbullet on what to expect. This is a National Enduro, I don't think MNZ register riders will give a rats ass what it's going to be like. They'll ride anything, everyone knows what to expect with Riverhead considering it's winter aswell.

Bombshell time.
Motorcycling of the off road kind aint cheap. If the cost of a MNZ licence is going to send you to the poor house maybe you had better look for another pastime.
Its the cost of a tyre or if you live in Auckland about 30 Nescafes.
Shit I'd pay $500 to ride the Riverhead Enduro its going to be that good.
Still no rain.

The rains cuming this event has always been a ride for the hardcore/he-man types, a latte drinking jafa will cry enough on the 1st hill.
MNZ & ACC getting into bed over coverage at events this is a real worry as all I see fees going up & less events.
MNZ has long been eyeing up the trail ride/non event rides as a funds source.

Its not the cost of the license that will put people off its the timming i think. It would be $120 for one race, as expires at the end of this month.
Personally for the $500 youd pay, i rather go up the farm for the long weekend.
Im sure the enduro will be good, but would be nice to see this event available for the not so serious riders next time. And i know it will be wet in there, but you don't need to be birchy or in a title hunt to enjoy it.

OK...I'm going to open a new thread on the MNZ/ACC thingy as its getting to the point where if we don't act as a comunity then shit is going to happen.
Good luck to WMCC for Sunday. Its a pity that a marginalised sport like Enduro's is further penalised by dated rules regarding licensing. When you are trying to promote the sport and get more involvement then to exclude participants, well go figure.
This rule regarding having a licence for national events was brought in during the heyday of MX when they had to restrict fields due to high numbers. Times have changed and nowadays they can't even get a full 40 rider gate (30 at the MX nats).
Yet as in the new post MNZ are going to bleed all riders with a tax, including and targeting trail riders.
Anyway enjoy the dry track on Sunday Factoryjohn:sunny:. Maybe the easter bunny will arrive for you or better still you will one day get to really sit on Santas lap. You deserve it for being a good boy.:innocent:

17 intermediates didn't finish
17 experts finished, 1 houred out.
8 experts didn't finish.
No one made time, be curious when the last time that occurred, I figure when Chris Birch loses 3 minutes & Sean Clarke is seen knackered that she was a damn tough race.

Well, the naysayers said it wouldn't be so.
Some thought FJ had mixed up his medication, but in the end, the WMCC Riverhead Enduro went off like a ACDC concert in Hamilton.
The premier enduro event of the season, now having run consecutively for 37 yrs, wasn't going to be easy, but the hard things in life never are.
Four of the country's top riders ( Birch, Mead, Davis and K Power ) returned from overseas just to ride this event. Red Bull were there doing some filming for a piece on Chris Birch and took plenty of footage which will be shown on Sky sometime soon. Watch closely and you might even see NadgerMan.
Ken Ring was on the money with his forecast, 19 degrees and sunshine. He predicted the earthquake, which although not felt by everyone did occur deep below Riverhead and was evident by the large areas of liquefaction.
Unfortunately Steve Crow and the Boobs on Bikes girls got lost on the way to the event, but luckily the over 40 vets rose to the challenge with their version....Moobs on Bikes.

Yes, the Waitemata boys were at the head of the queue for that one, Big Jim showed he's learnt a bit from the old man, Sparky hit a tree and the train kept talking to him......left front wheel, left front wheel. Ha ha. . Talking of blogs its surely noted that you have never started any.
KB is a forum where one can discuss ideas, information and views with input from others. Clearly you have a problem with this as the only time you ever seem to post is when there is a WMCC event happening.
There is a big world out there Factory, get off the farm and go explore it.:bye::bye:
When is your RUT100 on anyway?
I think they might have just had it!!! I counted way more than 100 ruts. Bloody good event if I may say so. Good move not making it a TTR, they'd still be be pulling turkeys out. WMCC do choice events. KTM boy, you come over a little precious. Maybe you need to have a little roll in the mud. I like sand too but preferably on a beach covered in bikini clad babes all oiled up and ready to go......... shit I've got to go.
