1999 Yamaha R1 (1998 model year), Runs beautifully, have changed the exup valve and the Throttle Position Sensor and done the plugs and fuel filter since I've had the bike, no service history other than that unfortunately as I never recieved any from the previous owner. You are welcome to take it down to a garage and have it checked over before purchase.

These bikes are well worth the money and are a great ride (if you know about bikes, the you know how great they are :). It pulls like a train, has an aftermarket UK exhaust and scottoiler, but otherwise standard.

I;ve kept her clean and have washed down the fairings etc, so she's been well loved. There is a small hairline crack in the tailsection (under the seat - not visible!) and some chips on the tank (ideally you would get that repainted). It also has high miles (ard 40k I believe but will confirm that tomorrow).

The bike has never been down and when I bought it, I had it looked over by Honda Hamilton whose mechanic said she rode like new. Pics are attached as is the youtube video :)..

No silly offers, but open to reasonable offers as I'm off (out of the country) soon. Make me an offer (txt preferably) and lets see where it goes.

Piss of poo lick. Thay are great bikes, but no more emotive than any other thou released since. Except for the Honda, as good as it is, they are dead fuckin boring compared to the rest.

I'm with Jimmy on this one. It mightn't be cutting edge on the race track but an early r1 (I had the '00) is a lot more fun on the road than my K7 GSXR was and ya don't have to be doing mach III for it to put a smile on your face. Ya don't have to kick it down a cog every time ya wanna make meaningful progress under 8krpm either. Huge smiles for the dollars and still quick enough to keep up with pretty much anything on the road if not the track. Haha, and there's always plenty of chat coming back from those clip ons, you're never bored!

Gorgeous bike, and a bloody sharp price too I reckon, these first gens will be worth something in a few years i reckon.

Im with white trash too, later model bikes are awesome and all, but the older ones (I have the 01) are awesome, no clutch, power wheelies at 4k rpm, ty than on the newer ones!

Fuck off wanker. Given the choice of which bike to take for a ride, one being a new cross plane R1 and a '98, I'll take the 98 EVERY time.

Given your history on a cross plane model that would be a very smart move!

Isn't the 98 the first of the R1's? Be worth buying just for that reason I reckon.

Yes it is. it was the game changer, and they are already starting to become quite sought after by certain groups.

Haha! There is a certain kb member, let's call him Frenchy, that had a '98 R1 when I had my K1 GSX-R1000 (with the number plate: R1 ETA).
Ask him what he thought of that... especially the plate! :D
Mind you, Franz still thinks that I'm a big lady's thing....
