Hello

Looking to start up a regular gathering of bikers to ride with in Wellington on the weekends. I have just moved to the windy city so am looking at making some new riding friends and getting in touch with the motorcycling community down here.

I don't care what you ride, how old you are, whether you are a guy or girl or anything. The only thing I care about is that you want to ride!

I was thinking meet in the city and head out from there. Same place every sat or sun. This makes it easy for people to get into the groove and will create a regular hang out hub.

I don't ride ultra fast, not a slow poke either. Usual group ride rules will apply etc etc.

So yeah, not a complex situation, meet on a weekend, chat, hang out, ride, eat and be merry! Come on wellingtonians, lets see that friendliness that everyone harps on about.

Routes etc can be discussed on day or before on here if wanted.

Oh and I know there is a wed and thurs ride but I work 6 till 6 everyday so not much energy to go on rides on weekdays.

Feel free to add and contribute!

Check out the Wellington Riders FB page. Regular rides arranged there. There's a ride over the Gladstone planned for Sunday. If you don't know already, 2 regular meeting points for Welly riders. The Duck Pond, Avalon and the Caltex garage upper hutt (commonly known as rimutex).

Sealed apart from the odd 30mtr compacted gravel for road works. They are constantly changing it as they reroute the road but it is nothing at all to worry about. Learners and Restricted riders have managed it in the last few weeks so not an issue.

Learner friendly Group ride to Galdstone pub for lunch today. Meeting at Rimutex, Upper Hutt 10:00am for a 10:30 depart. There will be the usual group split between the faster riders and the more leasurely of us including a rider brief before departing.
We normally regroup at set locations so as not to loss folks.

Here's a link to the FB event: https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=149272305146069

Hey I'm definitely keen for some weekend rides in Wellington. I'm based in Welli central so keen to meet close to town, and I'm not on BookFace, so I'd be stoked if someone could post the rides up here. Only able to ride every second weekend or so because we have a new baby, but would like to meet some other riders and not usually free on week nights.

hi Rusty,

i will try and remember to let you know about the FB rides. Great bunch of people, all ages, sizes, abilities. All caring riders. Rides usually split into two groups, slw/learners and faster riders. May do slightly differant routes but end up at then same end point. We are real lucky to have such awesome people in Welly:yes:

Fair call there John. Looking forward to riding with the FINEST crew again, the ones who have actually stayed in touch with me over these crappy 4 months, cared about me, and not invited my ex to their bloody parties and not me. Just saying... hahaha. I might wear a welly Riders cap, but not so proudly. I do however wear my kiwibiker t-shit proudly, and vouch they were the best best best rides I have ever had with a group. Luff you crazy kids. xx

Hi, A friend and I would be keen to jump on board with the Sunday ride if that's possible. Don't have spybook so can't check out the details there. Would someone be able to PM me the details if the ride is open to "strangers" (ooooooh). We're sensible riders, although never sure whether that counts for or against you round here :innocent:

Hi Rustyrobot. You would be more than welcome to join us once we have finalised some details. There is also facebook ride being organised, which is a ride to Riversdale I believe, it is pretty easy to set up a facebook account and check out the details there.

Well done Carla for fixing your oil leak, it was an amazing piece of mechanics. While I was following you I noticed your rear light was loose as hell, I meant to take a look but forgot so make sure you check that out.

Nice to see new faces of Russell and Jesse, hopefully you will make it along again. Definately the right call avoiding the masses today I think!

What yah mean - you did have a blonde there:yes:
did you know that if you fill your petrol tank to the very top on a frosty morning, then immediately park your bike in the sun, the petrol warms up and expands and overflows out the fuel overflow pipe, onto the road, melting the tar and leaving an tarry mess right under your engine. which can look like oil if you were blonde:blink::shit:
Fooled all of yah - Hah:facepalm::facepalm:

Thanks so much to my great riding mates, for the wonderful day on the roads, in the sun. Was just what i needed to re-ignate the spark in my soul that had dulled. I hadnt realised how much, until I got out today and played on some of my favourite roads with you fantastic people. Great to meet Russell and Jesse and I am sure we will be seeing you again.

Fantastic day, a great ride, and some nice people to meet too. Life is good. Seeing those luscious Wairarapa roads on a day like that is tempting to try and convince the family to move over the hill. But then I'd have to commute the Rimutakas and after the slooooow ride home this afternoon - maybe not.

Loved that road back to Masterton Carla. Managed to stay on my own side the whole way  Would have liked to hang about for a beer, but equally happy to get home and have some cuddles with my baby. Maybe next time. Cheers for a great ride folks!

Inspired deduction Carla. Bravo. Certainly looked like a major malfunction for a minute.

Was great fun and that Castlepoint Rd is an open invitation for lunacy isn't it? Have to add it to my alltime favourite "Rapa" roads. Still love love that climb up towards Wainuioru from the Castlepoint Rd. That would be my archetypal wairarapa ride, blue skies, silver poplars and brown summer grasses.

Thanks, everybody.

OK I'll remember that.

I went on my lonesome to Featherstone in the afternoon. The Takas was... interesting. A truck had crashed so there was a 30kph speed zone and cops with radars on so that was a major freak out. Then we went off road for a spell followed by a nice fresh diesel spill on every left hand bend on the way down... at least until you get to that lovely black tarmac when you know it's there but just can't see it. Going back was better.
