View Full Version : 4" rear wheel. What slick to use?

What tire should I use for a 4" rear CBR 250 wheel an my dads bucket project?
I would be really pushing it width wise for a 125gp slick, and I think a 160something supermoto rear slick would be somewhat to big.
Is there something in between that is still available second hand, even if few and far between?
If not would I be better off using a tire too big or a tire too small?
I don't really want to spend time swapping the wheels over as I am already doing that to my bike...
Thanks in advance for any help.

I thiiiiiink using a 600 supersport front race tire (a nice soft sticky tire) is what is being used by some people like Fish on rims that size or thereabouts. Just run the tire the other way around because of how the carcass is made to handle the forces. Braking exerts forces on the front tire in the opposite direction to the forces due to acceleration on the rear tire, so switch it around. Sounds whorey but it seems to work well, Fish aint no slouch.

Oh it's a 120 front too by the way. They are common as mud and not all that expensive too actually

Bridgestone 125gp rears are a 120 anyway but quite low profile. I would go 120 over anything wider. Only talking 6 and a bit millimeters over recommended for that tire anyway. Should be sweet.

Oh yeah true, I'm too lazy to check but I am pretty sure my R6 front is a 120/70. My Dunlop 125 slick is 115/something.

Yes really. It is just what we have to work with. We can't all have RS 125 frames with proper sized wheels. We can't all fit on the either...

It is a honda CBR 250 MC19 rolling chassis. Going to end up with an FXR engine...

you could always try and find a 17" by 3.5 wide read that fits the honda (or make it fit)
