Off the Buell group (reputable poster):

New rules in Europe.

Germany- Boots covering the ankle & jacket with CE protection + helmet. = minimum legal requirement for protection.

France are considering following suit, but have already announced that hi-viz clothing is to be mandatory for motorcyclists from 01/01/12.
But they're going to repeal the 106hp limit at the same time due to untenable pressure from the industry & other european states.

So, from next year in France you'll be able to legally ride your turbo'd & nitroused Busa.
Wearing flip-flops & shorts should you so wish, but you'll have to wear a luminous orange or yellow hi-viz vest or sam-browne.

Like that's going to do a lot.

There's going to be big organised protests in the major cities here on Sat 18th June.
I'll be taking part too if I can.

Typical EEC bureaucrats :woohoo: Same people who introduced some effing rule about the maximum permissible bend in a cucumber being 10mm from centre line for EEC sale, I kid you not. WTF???

Rules made simply to keep them busy and on the gravy train.

This is the case for anyone wearing leather trousers - leder = leather, hosen = trousers.

You mean the one which was repealed 9 years ago (http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/eu-regulations-to-keep-cucumbers-straight-are-declared-null-and-void-606625.html)?

They do seem to make some batshit insane rules, but the crazier ones get removed sooner or later.

...saw on the XJROC, a UK based owners website, a link to motorcycle news.
Insurance underwriters are refusing to insure riders on sports bike who intend to carry pillions.
Cars with passengers don't get the same treatment.
