Does anyone know of any mx track in the waikato that are open for people to practice on? Wanting to have a go on a track before i start racing. Pretty new to riding so an easy track would be good.
Know of Kimmy's. Also heard there was one in Whatawhata and another one out past Waikera prison? Would be great if anyone could give me any info on those and any others.
Thanks :)

Waikeria Prison one is pretty good i rate it more fun then kimmys. Don't go in the rain one hill nearly impossible in the rain

There is also a track the i went to with one of the top MX riders not sure if its invote or just rock up and pay the money. Its after cambridge but on the other side of karaperio lake from the main road.

waikeria track is good, its owned by the thomsons, dont know what skill you are but every beginner i have been there with did not like it. got a couple decent tabletops, but is often pretty cut up, wouldnt suggest it after rain as has some holes in the track that water sits in and stops ya clearing jumps

whatawhata track is good, best to avoid when its very wet though, im out there all the time and run that facebook page so any questions lemme know. its on heddon rd not to far past whatawhata gas station. well maintained, small jumps, medium jumps, a decent step up and one dodgy ass double, all avoidable or able to roll over, a couple diff track options.

also a track in morrinsville, aparantly that farm sold though so dunno whats gonna happen to in in the next week or two

theres also kimmys and thunder park, i dont go there as both owners are wankers and they are overpriced, thunders poorly marked and has a shit mx track

may also be a track in pirongia, been there a few times then it closed down, heard the other day that it was re-opened though so im not sure whats the go with that one

There's an mx track at Thundercross in Glen Murray/Ngaike (S22). I went past the other day and there was a sign saying closed July to September I think.

It's awesome, a fair trek from Napier I'd imagine, but I looooooooove the enduro loop. The MX track put me in hospital (my own fault) and can't quite grow a big enough pair to get back on it.

The guy at Thunder cross couldnt have been nicer when we went. Seems to be a GC to us. And really, how could you get lost there?

Its hard to find places to ride these days paying $30 to ride some where is cheap. Ive been on poorer marked trail rides then thunders track.

perhaps we got him on a bad day, we asked if there was any sort of group discount (there was a good 20 of us) and he spazzed out, told us thunders the cheapest place to ride as it was (bullshit at $35), one of the guys pointed out a few cheaper places, the owner then told him to fuck off and he wasnt welcome anyway. still took his money though, but we wont be back in a hurry.

its not so much gtting lost, but you get pissed of picking up the signage off the track to find out which way is a shortcut and which is the real loop. and the mx track that makes no sence, and has a tabletop with a curve in it so you land off the track if you try to jump it.

I didnt go on the MX track as my skirt got caught in the chain. It would not be a cheap operation to run alongside a working farm. Ive been involved in a similar business and there is a stack of compliance you have to go through.

yeah im well aware of that, and good on him for doing it - the more places to ride the better, and some people obviously like thundercross. This is just my experience with the place, and my opinion is there are better cheaper places to ride. will have to check it out in the wet one day though if everyone reckons its hell

Are any of the other venues trail based or MX track. Im more interested in trails. Ive only been to Thundercross so far.

But I did really enjoy my time there.

Its not hell in the wet, some people make it look that way. If your used to riding on wet clay and your the type of rider that stands up with good balance and can quickly pick a good line then it will be a bit of fun. I like to stop at some of the padocks, the sheep rutted ones are the best, go find a crazy hill and have a go. There are some good climbs around.

Couldnt agree more. I want to head out in whatever weather. And you dont need to stick to the sheep line.

Kimmy's should be next on your list, not a million miles away from Thundercross. The MX track used to be a poorly maintained, rutted up pig of a thing, but they've really sorted it out. The enduro loop is awesome though, my favourite trail.

open every day, turn up pay honesty box, sign your life away and ride. clay based so it does get pretty slick with a little rain

I would never go back to Kimmy's again! After ringing through and organizing an afternoon ride at Kimmy's we arrived to a down right rude Kimmy. He was clearly under the influence of something. Told us to piss off out of the blue. Luckily we hadn't paid we were standing at the counter with money in our hand to pay. An hour to drive home again. I have no idea how that place survives.
