View Full Version : Most important thing on an Adventure bike is...

To you what is the ONE most important thing on an Adventure bike (eg weight, power, colour, wheel size etc). Keep it to one thing and let's see how the replies differ.

I will save putting what I consider to be the most important thing until a bit later.

ONE thing only.

After the comments that were posted about what people thought the new Suzuki ADV bike should have I was interested in what people thought was the most important thing for an ADV bike. The replies that are coming in are quite varied which suggests that an Adventure ride to one person is completely different to someone else.

Wet weekend, actually had a couple of days in Auckland (saw the KTM dealer in Newmarket yesterday but luckily for the wallet it was shut...) and am now at work trying to catch up on "stuff" .....

This has got me stumped. I guess weight is a big thing for me. With the places I like to go, I need a bike I can pick up, and manhandle out of a bog hole.

Durability. Comfortable enough on the seal, handles the abuse it's going to get off road, Doesn't cost a fortune in broken plastic when it falls over, and easy/cheap to repair/maintain.

Of all the replies this is the one that I like the most. It doesn't matter if your bike has a 21 inch front wheel, good ground clearance, lightness, lowness etc etc, if your bike doesn't put a smile on your dial - well it is just the wrong bike for you!!

That it puts a smile on your dial.

Monstaman put my number 1 in being seat height because I'm a short arse, second would be weight. I don't like heavy bikes in the dirt coz every now and then you've got to pick it up when no one else is in sight.

7th June 2011, 17:29
Another vote for lightweight

If you know you can pick it up, you have a hell of a lot more ambition and confidence to have a nudge at something that looks a little sketchy (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php/137915-Queen-s-Birthday-South-Island-ADV-Ride?p=1130080540#post1130080540)

Fcukin' hard work riding up the hills, but lotsa fun on the way down. One must remember though that mtb's don't steer with footpeg pressure and turning the twistgrip, and one must remember this BEFORE the first turn in a tight S-series of single track. DAMHIK.
