Hey All,

Just thought I would get a 1st post up while I am lurking around taking in information.

A bit about me, 29y/o Male, 174cm, 55kg, Living in Welly the last 20 years.
Driving since 15 always wanted to jump on a bike but only recently decided to get it done. Current cage is an Evo 6.5 for the weekends and a Suzuki Swift Sport for the daily commute.

Sitting my BHS on Saturday with a group of friends, Learners Next Week with any luck.

Currently scouting for a Hornet in my area within my 4K budget.

See you all around the forum. :wavey:

Welcome to KB mate, and all the best for your learners next week. Once you are armed with that and a bike, there is just no stopping you. I have been biking for 2 years, and it has 100% changed my world (shut up all of you who know me - the last whoops was just one more change :P)

There is a fantastic bunch of riders in the Wellington region. We often run rides through kiwi biker, but at the moment the Wellington Riders Group on facebook is accomodation for all levels right through winter. Come and meet the crew. I hope to re-join then all later in the year.

 just for Katiepie. The best keep secret on KB

Welcome to the madhouse Flannel and good luck with the tests. As you already have the car licence you will most likely find the multi-choice scratchy easy compared to the BHS.

Cheers Guys,

Not my first forum, so im well used to trolls.

Have a few Hornets on my radar at the moment, but am also partial to the Ninja 250R, so still keeping options open.

theres a nice Kwaka 250 sports bike recently listed on these forums for sale, 3.5k.
Wouldnt usually recommend it for a learner - but a mature learner should be ok with it.
And nope, I dont know the seller. Just saying....

Well, BHS passed by my wife, myself and 2 of my best mates.

Having never ridden a bike before, I must say it was alot easier than I thought it might be. And was bloody terrific fun (even in the Pouring rain yesterday).

Looking forward to getting my own bike and learning its characteristics just as soon as L test is done.

Wellington Motorcycles enjoys an excellent reputation for long term customer relationships.

But they dont listen. told them about 6 years ago when I last bought a bike off them that they must move to Auckland. Im still waiting.

Thanks to Random guy who heard me coming, came outside and gave me a push start!!!!!!!!!! LEGEND.

So thats a bunch of learning on my first night. Cant wait to go out tomorrow!

Gah! Feel free to flick me a text if you're ever stuck mate. As I said, I'm only round the corner.

Bring the bike past in the next couple of days or on Saturday and I'll load test the battery for you. Should last longer than a few cranks to start. If it's buggered I'll throw a new one at it.

On a positive note, 10 kay on the float bowls is pretty good milage :D

What he said mate. Check that the fuel's been turned to "on" and not "res" otherwise you'll be fucked when it strts to run out.

Well. I'm a beginner biker myself that started back in December of 2010. I ride a 2006 Hyosung GT250 Comet and I swear by it.

In terms of gear, you can trawl the internet on sites like Trademe or I paid me a visit to Motorad on Vivian St and they had a deal where you pay in total $1000 for Macna jacket, pants and gloves, with Sidi boots and a helmet. You might want to check them out. I'm not sure if that deal is still on.

Good luck with your bike hunt bro. See you on the road.

Well finally the weather and my spare time were in alignment.

I had a couple of hours of riding this afternoon with my mate.

Rode the new subdivision down alexander road.
Rode the CIT carpark for some slow maneuvering.
Rode Wally hill and across whitemans/mangaroa and out to Te Marua.

Had so much fun in the valley, i had to go back and do it again on the way home.

:woohoo:

I did beat the pants off my mates bandit whenever he tried to pull away, do I get points for that?

Finally took some pics too.

Right, so a few more mods done to the Hornet this week.

New Clutch Cable
Titax Adjustable Levers
Oxford Hot Grips
Cleaned the chain

Pretty happy with all so far. Frame sliders on the way from UK and Scott Oiler will be soon as well.

Look mate, the question everyone wants the answer to is as follows.

"What's faster to 100 kays, the Hornet or the Evo?"

Don't sweat the small stuff...... :D

(BTW, lube that chain after you've cleaned it)

Flannel
10th July 2011, 16:55
All depends on the launch I reckon. straight line speed is pretty similar. But evo will smash anything through some corners I reckon.

The Hornet is probably more rewarding to ride fast though. As theres no electronics sorting out your stuff ups.

Chain is lubed too. Only lightly though.

Ooooooo, carefull brother. The KB safety Nazis will be along any second to tell you that a new rider should never EVER test the performance of their machine.

Got a Ducati 999 in the garage that'll be keen for that corner wager whenever you're ready too :)

Cereal though, glad you're enjoying that bike. Look forward to going for a ride together soon.

Well with the return of the beautiful weather. I made the venture over the big hill (Rimutaka's) with another newbie mate.

Apologies to the two bikers I held up briefly, was a little unsure of the hill on the way over, but must admit i kicked a bit more tarmac butt on the way back home (to upper hutt).

Around 180km all up. Down to Wharekauhau road, then over to Martinborough, back through featherstone and home again. Bike performed flawlessly and fun was had by both parties.
