As per the title. (http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=383933894)

Anyone know when one of these was last for sale in NZ? And, if so, what were they asking then?

There was a genuine ex Rothmans Honda superbike RC30 here in Hamilton in the late 90's. It sold for around 15K.

I had the privelage of knowing the person that bought it and had the pleasure of riding it around during our South Island trip back in 98. That was a monster of a bike. 150km/h in 1st and on from that. MMMMMmmmmmm. Memories

Not as much as a mint RC45 would.

I'm loving RC30's. I could be well wrong (again), but I don't think it'll fetch 40k here in NZ.

He's asking too much. The small headlight, black mirror model was originally a 77hp Japanese market only version. Someone needs to ask if it's been derestricted or is it one of the very few Australasian market ones that made it downunder in derestricted form.

For the record, I think it is unlikely that RC45s will ever be as collectable as RC30s. RC45s could almost be regarded a failure, rather than the game changer the RC30 was.

Failure or not, it was still one hell of a sexy bike. And I bet if one landed at your front door step, you wouldn't put it out for the weekly rubbish collection :bleh:

I think it is well known that they did much better at the IOM, long distance Le Mans and Boldor races then they did in the World Superbike Series.

Sorry, thought you were referring to the 30. The RC45 was no superbike lemon either though mate. Slighty SHOULD'VE won a couple of titles, and Kocinski won the title in his first crack.

Perosnally I think that the RC45 came a wee bit too late. It was suppose to be a Duke beater, but by the time it came out, the Dukes got faster, so the development was too late. It wasn't till SP1 (RC51) came along before it gave the Dukes a run for their money. But you are absolutely right. The 45 was a hell of a bike and unfortunately it took Kocinski to prove it. Slight should have won on numerous occasions. It just not ment to be for him. :weep:

oh shit! guess that answers my earlier question, definitely appreciating in value!

TBH, if it's in mint condition, and that is where the market is at, I'd be well keen if I had that sorta spare cash. Mind you I don't think the shouty add helps his case...

13th June 2011, 17:43
Yeah the 30 has a better pedigree in most people's minds than the 45 I reckon just coz it did win those first two World championships.

Slight should have won the title in 1996 but he tossed it away over the back of Phillip Island that year with the title in sight but then lost to his view.

Still wouldn't pay that price for a 30 though.

Because he was used to washing his hands so often probably......................

I'd have an RC30 in a heartbeat over an RC45. Interestingly me mate Paul Taylor had one and came for a couple of rides with us a few years back. Thing overheated like a bitch. The clutch fucked out and it blew smoke when it got hot. Would have given my left nut for it..............

Personally, that'd be the RC30 I'd hunt down and pay whatever was required to secure it. Assuming, of course, that I had a silly amount of money.

I agree. I reckon $30k based on the ebay prices etc. This is a customer bike it appears, i.e. no racing provenance or history.

Funnily enough, I was talking to my bank manager today about maybe buying something ex ebay.

I know of a derestricted Jap market version in good nick that went for around $16k here a few years back - I'd think that's probably still about right.

A while back I saw an ad for the HRC prepped, fully kitted RC30 that was to have been Stephane Mehrtens bike for the season when he went to Ducati. The Belgian dealer still had it sitting unused. Those of us who were at the practise day at Manfield WSB round will remember what happened to his previous RC30...came back to the pits in several large pieces....

These aren't worth 40k yet but they are probably heading that way over time. I owned a minter a few years back that I had to let go so my 2nd wife didn't get it in the settlement. I paid 16k for it from Sawyers in Adelaide Rd. Some B'stard sold it to me. I called in for a coffee break and there it was, just begging to be taken home. It was tiny and the frame used to get really hot but it was a phaaarkin serious bit of kit. Hand made Honda. I'll always regret letting it go and I'd have another one tomorrow, but at 40k this guy is taking the piss. Maybe on Ebay some arsehole with too much phaarkin money would pay that, but you could buy all sorts of exotica for 40k.
One thing that I discovered one day in my shed was that the RC30 had identical switch gear to my 916sp made 7 years later. No shit! I was staggered. Still, the Italians and their electrics eh? They obviously figured out the Japs were good at something.

OK, so I am doing some net research on RC30's, and reading this site:

http://rc30.yolasite.com/wheels-and-tires.php

I really like this quote:

The most important thing to consider when dealing with wheels and other drivetrain parts is safety. Never assume anything. The wheels and tires on your bike see pretty big loads and the attached tires are the only thing touching the ground, with any luck. Don't scrimp here. Buy cheap tank pads and windscreens, not driveline parts

I have most of my hit list. It's only small but select!

Hard to believe is only 13 years apart. The one one the left has 25+ more hp....and about 125% less handling.

IIRC correctly the all white RC30's were a special edition, marshalls bike or something at the 8 Hours. They also subsequently did an all white RC51/SP1 which had no road kit.

OW01 (all years) - 2000 - about 500 per year 89-92 incl
TZ750 (all years) 550-650 TOTAL. 200+ of those were in 74.
