I don't think I'm gonna be there. I went and tested my bucket at Kaitoke yesterday, did 4 laps and found a few problems so I had to go home. Too much to fix in a week but I will try. I will try make it for prize giving at least.

Will be there for sure. Its been to long off the bike.

Sux about your bike Hamish what's the problem?

A couple of things. The brakes were rock solid but with no power because of the master cylinder bore being too big for the caliper. So I switched it to the smaller FXR master cylinder and BOOM way more braking power.

Unfortunately the muffler hits the ground too easily so I need to sort out a smaller muffler. Suspension is set up really soft at the moment too which wont be helping.

I think even with the footpeg raisers I have made the footpegs could still potentially hit the ground. The gear shifter isn't very good either. Other than that, I did 1 reasonably quick-ish lap and the bike was considerably more stable in the 2 main areas on the track where I was having trouble with big wobbles.

Just a few teething problems then. Sully or Fish might have a stiffer spring.

Yeah definitely just teething problems. It was exciting to ride it though. Not sure how the suspension really is until I have ridden it fast for a few laps and had a bit of a play with it. I have watched a ton of videos and done a lot of reading so I'm keen to go try a few things and see how it goes.

Lookng forward to it, but wondering if the bikes just end up staying in the van ;) Hamish, if your bike isn't ready, bring your gear and take mine out in a practice and if it's all okay for you, you can race that (Henk enjoyed racing you last time, and as he always offers his bike, I have to reciprocate). And yes, I know offering a B/C grade rider is a bit different from an A grade, but I don't give a crpa about my bike and I'm not the mechanic lol ;) Oopss, better go, mechanic just got home.

nOT Only that, but it might get rained off lol
But someone wants a race pie, I think that's all I've heard about.

Got another dorklander coming down (just got told), but no idea how to get hold of him even - he was there on the Sunday at Easter. Good to see another keen person wanting to get the hell outta town whenever he can (wonder why he hasn't come to any of the NI series rounds, but not sure when he started).

Oh, Hamish, the mechanic said then he has to change my bike so I've got stock carb and something else (wheels, dunno), but he didn't tell me off too much lol

hmurphy
14th June 2011, 21:50
Haha make sure he doesn't do too much!! I'm unsure if I can make it as it is. I have far too much exam study to do and on Sunday there is a special study group thing which I think I should go to. Really gutted as I don't normally miss any racing.

Henk
14th June 2011, 21:55
Nah I won't sabotage the bike, may straegically forget to put gas in it though.
If you have exams I can quite understand missing the racing, we're only really coming down or the board game anyway.

Well I'm hoping to bring my 100. Have the footrests sorted & added water & oil to it last night + fitted the rear wheel up, shortened the chain etc, hmm wonder what gearing it will run now?

Should really do a run on the dyno as the jetting & ign timing will be well out I'm sure.

Hey, it would be cool if someone could ask Phil (one of the main Kart guys) if he has those photos available from Easter Buckets at Kaitoke. He was out there all weekend with his family helping out and I have been trying to get ahold of him because I would like to get all the photos on to my laptop. There were some really great shots of everyone, especially on the Saturday. I won't be there tomorrow so I can't ask.

Also I have just uploaded a quick list of the Wellington Bucket Numbers in this thread:

Had a bit of a laugh in the wet. First time out for the Spartan, thing was running like a bag of hammers. In part due to the muffler coming off the header, that and Richard Haynes pouring gelatin in my tank to hold me back..

Hopefully see you cats next time.

Yeah, cheers Fishe etc for a good series. I was a bit hungover & in a little trouble so I elected to look after my lad for the day. He thought it was cool & kept saying Bikes, Bikes. But it was a bit wet to keep him out in it. Or me for that matter. Can we order some decent weather for next time? I don't want to do shake down runs on the 100 in the wet thanks.

Best I add my thanks to Fishie and co for organising, all the hardy locals that turned up for the wetest bucket meet I've ever been to and Str8 and Koba for putting us up.
Had a great time and learnt that getting up at two in the morning, driving quite a long way and then drinking on an empty stomach can take you from OK to unconcious in about 15 minutes.
Damn good weekend, hope to see some of you at Roys Hill in a couple of weeks.

Cheers for another fun day. I expected to have no fun at the track, but apart from my mechanic not being able to fix the bike properly, had a ball. We actually got a bit sensible and stayed overnight in Turangi instead of getting home at 2am.

Sorry for piking out so early Saturday night, but I guess being old and four hours sleep, 10 hours driving, couple of hours watching racing and talking shit at Manfeild adds up to a couple of old folk not able to keep up with the youngsters.

Congrats to Nigel for the win, funny as hell as I didn't realise you guys were coming up for the checkers and just wanted to get the heck out of your way, so felt totally mobbed as you crossed the line :)

As for Mr A in the last B grade race, I knew you were going to crash, you had that look on your face as you looked back at me, so I was looking forward to watching you constantly go past me and crashing but my bike sputtered coming out of Chicago and as pit lane was just there, I thought I should do the sensible thing and not risk having the bike go toes up on me again.

Dunno what else to say, except, next time (October) can we have some decent weather? I did keep thinking I should be able to pass Trudes as she was on slicks and I was on wets, but was happy to even keep up with her (I know how slow I am).

Sorry Kyle that you missed out on a race, but no matter - I missed out on two hahaha

Crash of the day was definitely Rich. I don't think I even saw it but did watch the slide. What a mess dude. You were lucky you didn't get hurt. I need to crash but somehow it doesn't overly appeal - maybe you could give me lessons??? I've hit the road before, know it hurts, hit the dirt often and know it doesn't hurt often, so now need to learn whether hitting the track and then dirt hurts or not.

Anyway, thanks again for a fun day. Looking forward to Roy's Hill in a couple of weeks and then October back down there.

Yes well I was lucky. Been lucky a few times lately with some fast crashes. I will try and not make a habit of it. Need to act my age and let the young guys do all the crashing. But if I had a choice crashing into the mud and sliding up the bank would be the preferred option. Still don't know what happened whit line maybe. Sux, had it in the bag. Fark, Auckland's here any time, it's not going away yet (much as the rest of the country wishes it would).

We chose that round as it's the only one we can make this year due to clashes with our rounds and/or being too close to them. The next Auckland round is at the end of next month (last weekend in July) and we decided it's too long between drinks.

Rich, I found the white line nicely on my line, so was overly wary of the damned thing. Couldn't see from where I was standing whether you were hitting it or not. One thing I did wonder, was how slippery clumps of grass and mud would be if you hit them on the track. Someone (who shall remain anonymous) dropped a lovely clump just as he went past me, which was picked off the track (thanks guys).

F5 Dave - I think we'll be having to play the board game in October, as at Roy's Hill we'll have to play Roy's Hill the board game (doesn't quite have the same ring to it, but no doubt the results will be the same - messy). Your little one is gorgeous - wonder if we can find a spray to keep him like that - always in a good mood, not hungry, no dirty nappies, small and cute. Women are so fickle hahaha

$20 Day Licence
$10 fee for Saturday practice 3 pm to 5 pm.

Bikes must conform to MNZ regulations and excessively loud machines will be excluded at the discretion of the race officials at any time.

1.) MNZ rules for competition motorcycles.
These are non negotiable, lock wired sump plugs, catch bottles for crankcase breather, carb overflow hose, fuel tank breather, and coolant overflow for
the water cooled bikes.
Spin on oil filters to be secured with a hose clip or similar.

Applies to all Buckets and Motards

Please note MNZ rules 34.2.4 through to 34.3 regards Motards. ( 500cc min
size catch bottle, no glycol coolant, lock wire fillers and drains, noise
max 95 db).

2.) Roy's Hill track rules, in addition to the above.

All bikes to have crash knobs / bungs / nylon, call it what you will to the
following areas,

b.) The underside of both foot pegs.

c.) Handle bar ends. ( Alloy bark busters here on Motards,)

d.) Any part of the frame or engine that will touch the ground if the bike

If this is the case, we reserve the right to push it off the stand and see what hits?

e.) Lock wired oil and water filler caps.

f.) A Grade riders only permitted in practice sessions and A Grade races,
same applies for B Grade. Any reasonable request to run outside of your
class ( machine sorting etc.. is at the discretion of the Clerk of the

Good to see some pics of the day. Good work. Nice to see I am in front of fish in most of them. Doesn't tell the true story, but I can live with that. I think I might have to invest in a waterproof race cam. Would have been some good footage.

Got a waterproof race cam and had a play with it at the last Mt Welly meet. The only downside is that the lens is so small that although the camera doesn't get drowned in the wet the smallest drop of water in the wrong place makes the resulting footage a blur. Thought about chucking it on the bike sunday but in the end couldn't be arsed.

Well the riders sure turned on a memorable day too bad the weather forgot to play its part with a nice fine day, that didn't stop 23 starters 10 in Maidstone Yamaha A grade and 13 in Motorad B grade racing hard in what can be said the wettest day I have ever had the pleasure of racing in, at one stage there was rivers flowing down the track that you could drown in, but all up the racing was wicked.

MAIDSTONE YAMAHA A grade saw Andrew Adlam (1NZ) take the day with a (1-2-1) which left him 3rd in the overall championship with (174 points) passing Craig Sullivan (6th-133 points) Adrian Mitchell (5th-148 points) and Richard Ban (4th-165 points) Second on the day with (2-1-2) sees Fishie (Stephen Coombes) take 1st over all with (277 points) and a good solid ride on slicks in the pouring rain sees Caleb Adlam retain his 2nd overall in the championship, will done mate you had some pressure on you for sure, a good effort

MOTORAD B grade was once again a mixed bag with the championship leader failing to show which opened the way for George Vaculik-Hamilton to start his title chase, but there was other plans for George today as he made it hard on himself from the get go with an off in the first race while leading getting back on to finish 7th. With a 3rd and a 2nd in the last two races was enough to claim the title with (195 points) six clear of 2nd place Mark Hodson (189 points) James Patrick had another good day taking his 1st win in race one following that up with a 5th and a 4th to take 3rd overall with (182 points). 4th overall in the championship was Ben Oxnam with (149 points) a good solid ride with (5-3-5). Trudi Manning slipped something into her husbands Nigel Manning's breakfast on Sunday morning because boy he was flying in the wet weather taking his maiden win in race two, Nigel finished a credible 5th overall with (145 points) putting on a (2-1-4) for the day. I don't know if the smile has gone from the face of young Cameron Page but he deserves to keep it there for a while yet with a grand display of riding for the Stokes Valley teenager not only running on slicks he was 4th in race one, backs that up with 2nd in race two and goes all the way to take his maiden win in race three finishing the day 1st = with Nigel Manning and moves himself up to 12th overall for the championship. Cameron was lucky enough to claim the new HJC helmet that was given away by MOTORAD

TSS RED BARON KING OF KAITOKE CUP was won by Fishie with (277) 2nd Craig Sullivan (213) 3rd Andrew Adlam (211) 4th George Vaculik-Hamilton (195) 5th Mark Hodson (189)

MOTOMART ROOKIE OF THE YEAR was won by James Patrick (182) points 2nd Ben Oxnam (149) 3rd Dale Hoarse (119)

Hey Everyone,

Great turnout and finish to the Series, especially with the weather contributing SOO much to the last round! Thanks to Fishie for organising a superb series start-to-finish... and those others who helped out too.

Despite the weather, I think a fair bit of credit to everyone on Sunday as there were no pile-ups when someone did inevitably have a bit of an off.

Nigel you were absoutely on fire! I hope we can have some quality battles next time out?

For me, highlight of day was...Richban telling a bit about the history of the track, e.g. years ago it was a trailbike track and me suggesting supermoto as an addition? Next race he went out there and promptly created the start of a new supermoto track at what would had to have been the fastest off of the series? Personally I would have picked a few corners later would have been a better place to start :2thumbsup...and only funny as there were no injuries.
