OK so anyway I'm surfing the interwebs of a Tuesday evening and I run across this page:

http://www.ridertraining.co.nz/699.html

ShoutoutZ to our very own Qkkid (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/member.php/5323-Qkkid) and Qkchk (http://i52.tinypic.com/2s623ac.jpg) are, of course, due; they are both really awesome riders and they run a really awesome rider training, er, company thing. So that you too can be awesome.

Because, in the end, we all want to be awesome.

But there's just one tiny issue with their interweb page.

"The B-King is based on a Suzuki Concept bike which made its debut at the 2001 Tokyo Motor show. It has the second generation 1340cc Hayabusa motor producing 181HP and is capable of doing below 9secs on the 1/4mile stock standard."

Sub 9 standing quarter miles? On a stock B-King? Really, Dawn and Steve?

I think perhaps this needs to be thrown open to the Gentle Readers.

So, folks. Are porkies being told to innocent, trusting n00bs? Or are B-Kings really that awesome?

Place votes now.

I never got out of first gear.

Even then it was sitting at 160....

I recall seeing an ad when the ZX14 came out claiming an 8.4 second 1/4. That also seemed unlikely.

Maybe there's a downhill drag strip somewhere.

EDIT: There's also an unnecessary R in "GSXR1400" describing the bikes lined up in front of Homer Tunnel. These things are important.

Flying quarter?

10.2 seems to be the lowest Stock time I can find on the Net.

One suspects that the author of the comment in question took a liberal interpretation of the term "Hayabusa".

C'mon Dan you of all people know that even the GSX1400 could do the quarter in 7 seconds.

Depends. If you dropped one off the top of a really tall building...

seriously though, they're fast, but not that fast. Perhaps the author was talking about the show bike, which had the supercharger.

For the sake of providing some accuracy, I've ridden one, 750-odd kms on the clock, Yoshi pipes. I didn't full throttle it in first though (did in 2nd and 3rd) so I can't say for certain, but I came close to full throttle, maybe 80% in first.

I wonder if they mean the concept bike is the one that could do a sub-9, as I thought that thing was a lightened down busa with a supercharger (http://www.topspeed.com/motorcycles/motorcycle-reviews/suzuki/suzuki-b-king-concept-bike-ar7542.html)

they were pinging them off for $15k at one point, brand spankers. LOT of bike for that money.

Yes, beaten senseless with the ugly stick, but at $15k and say $3-5k for some tasteful mods you'd have a really quick, not bad looking bike.

Ive seen some custom ones that are cool.

maybe with a drag slick, lock the front suspension down, and whatsisname Gleason riding it it would go under 10? plus a longer swingarm etc

I only ever did 12.5s. That was launching in second gear at an unprepped Meremere and fishtailing my way through the first 50m. Very difficult to get off the line tidily on that surface. I expect a GSX1400 could do low 11s with the right rider on a high-traction strip.
