Hi folks, wondering if anyone can help me work out what year my A100 is. I bought it last weekend with a view to restoring it and getting it on the road. I have attached some photos to assist with ID including one of the frame number and frame plate. (these don't give any indication to a year of manufacture) Any help would be most appreciated.
Thanks, Cazza.

Looks like a 1979 to me but not 100 per cent. Good score though and good luck with it.:2thumbsup

You sir are a very lucky man. Those are awesome lil bikes and they go forever (once you get it going that is!)

yup, have a good look at the rims & the small writing written thereon. They should have a date (year) stamp & with the throughput of these items on a japanese bike they are very very likely to be fitted the same year as it was made.

Thanks gents. I have never heard of the rim date thing before, I will be curious to check it out over the weekend. My guess was that it is possibly a '72 or '73 model, but that's only a guess from what I can find on the internet, and that's going by the paint scheme/tank stripes. I was told you can find out by the engine numbers, but i can only find later years to match engine numbers, and the frame number, I gave up on that. More than happy to hear any further info. Looking forward to getting a start on the little beast, I already have it stripped back to the frame.
Cheers, Cazza.

I just look how cool they were when they first came out !!!
Good score, Dude.
Remember these were quite a hot bucket back in the 80's as the disc-valve 2 stroke was very tunable.

The plate does say its an A100 IV. My first bike was an A100 III and they were introduced into NZ in 1970.

I thought the A100 IV was introduced in 1972, I have been wrong once before though.

Cleaned up some bits yesterday, but no luck with any manufacture date on the rims. Thanks for your suggestions though. I shall perservere, but still open to any more suggestions.
I am also wondering if the engine parts are interchangable between say a 72/73 (model which I am assuming mine is) and say a 74/75 model engine (also assuming according to the engine number) The engines look identical, but the later one has good bits but a knackered main casing. The earlier one has a very good casing. Thoughts???
Cheers, Cazza.

Hmm, sorry about that, thought they all carried a stamp. Never mind ou can always look at the hydraulic front brake hose. That will certainly have a date stamp.

hmmm,...I wasn't sure if the A-100's came out with Radially-mounted Front Brakes.
Now I know. Thanks for clearing that up, Dave.
Bet you can bend the forks right under the engine with that amount of stopping force !!!

Best ask Koba about that, think he used a car to get some really good retardation & fork flex.

Yes, the only two stroke I didn't sieze.....
That accident was over 2 years ago and the guy never went to court. I hope the 'A' haunts him.....

Just an update for interest. I made a good contact last weekend who informs me via a comprehensive list of engine numbers he has, that my little beast is in fact a 72 model. It appears mystery solved. Thanks to all who had a crack and for the comments. Now to get to work and see if I can get it up to some sort of running standard... wish me luck:blink:

Chuck some flat bars, and flyscreen and a chamber on it, then she'll have some real street cred :)
That's what I'm going to do with my Yamaha equivalent.

I'd be happy just to get it back to somewhere near original........ but you never know what will happen. I got a spare later model motor with it and a spare muffler. At least i got something to work with. According to some of my research on the net, these little beasts used to go alright with a bit of a tickle:yes:
