I have a snapped exaust stud and (now) a snapped stud extractor to deal with (@#$%!! *$%$ - translates to "gosh I am a little annoyed about this") does anyone know any motorcycle type engineers in Christchurch that could help me out here? Thanks in advance.

Do you know a good welder?
A nice trick is to build up a ball of weld on the end of the broken stud, slip a nut over the ball of weld and weld the nut to the ball. The heat from the weld helps free up the stud and you can use the nut to withdraw the stud. Some times takes a couple of attempts but has always got me out of trouble.

If the end of the stud is visible take it to Austins Aluminium Welding 25 Gasson St
Lloyd will TIG an extension onto the stud and voila it just winds out....
Reasonable cost too if it's easy access - and clean.

If bribed with bourbon I can wave my TIG at it.

Yeah, got all upset with me one day when I told him the guy driving his kart was driving like a cock

Very quality of work and has been around for a very long time, I can remember him welding up some Honda rockers for us about 30 years ago

you dont need a motorcycle type engineer you just need someone with a welder and the know how to extract a busted screw

I use to read books/magazines etc where the writer often recommended 'take it to an expert'

One morning I woke up and realised I was one of those 'experts'

Hayden is right.

Yeah I love doing stuff myself (hey I got 3 of them out) - thats why there is a broken stud extractor in the middle of the broken stud ATM LOL . I know when its time wipe my hands, have a nice cooling beer and request assistance - and this is it!

Cheers Dudes

I'm not 100% certain of this, but I have a sneaking suspicion that the studs on the Gmobiles are generally nigh on impossible to get out, and require drilling to remove.

Could well be wrong on this though.

Are you able to bring it around to my place? I can have a look at it, and possibly give you some advice. I have daily access to engineers who do my bike welding and more complicated work I know a great guy who does contract work.

Edit -

Those other recommended welders would do fine also.
