anyone use these guys?
they claim they are getting 1500 new members each week.
they dont charge commission to sell & you get gallery for free.
unlike trademe who take 7.5% & charge you extra for gallery & 29 to 39 dollars to sell a vehicle.
in the US there is a 2nd largest site after ebay, called Craigslist, which is quite popular.
so it will be interesting to see how this site goes.

Yep Craigslist. Totally free and it works. You can buy, sell ot trade pretty much anything except for (shame) guns. Some good RnR and subject forums too.

Sella's OK I suppose. I've been a member for awhile however not ever bought or sold anything.

I don't really like their layout and don't find it as user friendly as Trademe.

User Friendly = What you are used to

Im thinkin that if they got some more media attention it might take off more? like tv news or similar
apparently the owners of trademe are thinking of selling it

anyway, I have just listed a bike on sella FOR FREE & put a sella link on here, in the online trading section. I haven't listed it on TM, I wanna see how it'll go on sella

Fucks Sake.

Yet again, Bikers wanting to BAN Things - censorship, and enforce their viewpoints/wishes on others.

Its a fucking free country.
Be thankful our gubbermint et al realise its a free country, and we can freely ride bikes. And post shit on forums.

Sella are caught in a Catch 22 situation.

Because far fewer people use the site than TM, the people that list items for sale list them for higher prices because they know that bidding wars are highly unlikely to eventuate. Because there's not the same bargains to be had, fewer people check the site out.

For it to work, more sellers need to accept that they may only realise a minimum amount on their auctions and list their items at a figure closer to a bargain. Trouble is, no-one wants to do that.

Trademe - the modern day version of a 2nd hand shop? Said shop used to make 100% profit. The 'free sites' still have overheads, which are paid for by advertising....but advertising wont work unless people actually click and buy. Which in NZ.....wont happen soon.

So guess we have to pay the middleman 7.5% ??
/cry /cry, people are making money......so unfair in this great Welfare state we live in.

how can you enjoy that, and want to stay there????

Yeah I see that Race Evolution have their cheap gook shite strewn across it with every bloody model attached to every listing, effectively fucking the search engine.

I had a look for the first time after T&E merged with them. I found this (http://www.sella.co.nz/motoring/car-parts-accessories/oil-additives/8204gz/) on the front page.

All of the car and bike listings I looked at were way overpriced and had almost no views. I certainly wouldn't use it as the only means to sell something I wanted to get rid of.

on the contrary, all the listings I have on sella are at cheaper prices than what I have the same stuff on trademe listed for (because I dont have allow for the 7.5% commission)

Sella bought out Zillion a couple of years ago and recently did the same to Trade & Exchange.

Unfortunately, they're still pushing the same old fucked up marketing strategy as the afore-mentioned 'has been's' were.

Trademe has a max listing of 50 items & above that you have to pay extra, maybe sella hasnt got that; if not then they probably should.
agreed, that spamming with products like that is no fun

I would love for something like Sella to do well as we need a genuine competitor for TM. Unfortunately with not many people checking it out, we (sellers) are unlikely to get a better price.
TM keep increasing their fees every year or two. Used to be cheap to sell stuff, now not so much. Owned by newspaper mafia, who seem to want to charge the same rip off prices they used to charge for the old newspaper classifieds.

That's very admirable but you alone are not going to make sella a success.

I think they need to show results from other sites in their searches (like dogpile did etc) so buyers are better off to exclusively use them. Once they have a large market share of the buyers, the sellers will start getting better deals, end of trademe!

well i hear ya but im doin my bit. if people buy from me on sella they will pay between 15 to 70 dollars less, depending on the item. that must be worth using a different site for.

I scored a low use, PW50 off Sella for $300. Same bike would have gone for $1200 + on trademe. I've also bought jeans and and a few bits and bobs off Sella.

I like Sella, They say they will always be free to sell, and any extra advertising is cheap if ya want it.
Just gotta get more people on there is all.

I always list on both Sella & Trademe, and if selling firearms I include Gunstuff as well. 90% of stuff sells on TM before the other two. That's good enough for me. The good thing is that there are so many IDIOTS on TM that are happy to buy absolute shite, I don't throw anything away anymore. Stained old bed $171, box of broken cell phones $147 etc etc....

brett7777
20th June 2011, 11:49
well I've started listing on there, thought I may as well use it, as mentioned before the prices are less than my trademe prices, & yes of course noone is being forced to buy :innocent:

whoever has that plate could probably buy several bikes with it
the first letter A has been pasted over the other letters on the plate to conceal the plate number

I would be keen to support sella and give trademe the boot. I am sick of trademe's fees. Sella need to come up with some creative and effective marketing to try and get some weight behind them. It is a critical mass thing, hit the tipping point and suddenly the thing will explode.

Apparently they are going to do some sort of advertising soon. I hope it's something effective.
They just need to get in people's faces enough to get some critical mass like you say.
I sold something on there the other week. Bit of a pleasant surprise.
