Failed warrant! Brake light not illuminating on brake lever

Hey all,

I'm hoping this is a good place to post this....? :-)

Failed warrant last week on the brake light not illuminating on the front brake lever, but... works on the foot brake switch :scratch:

I've checked all the obvious connections etc.. but they all look ok.

My bike got jack'd outside work the other week with some muppet who tried to hot wire it, stripping all the wired. I've soldered them back but maybe missed something that's affecting the brake light switch?

Check the switch on the brake lever, I got failed for the same thing a while back, the switch was clicking so seemed ok but not closing to turn the light on.

Otherwise it's just follow the volts to the switch and from there to the light, if your wiring has been buggered about with could be anywhere along the way.

The connections on the hand brake lever do get dirty, and are often ignored ... untill WOF time ... A good clean maybe all thats needed ... (warning ... the switch contains small bits, and are spring loaded )

ahhh many the fun hours I have spent scrabbling round on the floor looking for all said spring loaded bits..... makes that quick 5min job take quite a bit longer.

You learn never to do anything like that on grass, things are amazingly hard to find when they fall on the grass.

I've found a large white bed sheet, spread out under the bike works wonders ...

They just dont understand how important it is, not to have holes in the sheet ... Stuff is easier to find on un-patterned sheets ... and a flannel sheet keeps you warmer ... :lol:

Legends. All of you. Simple fix.

Strangely, after testing each component - wiring - contacts etc.. All it took was to remove the plastic brake-light switch (one piece plastic) under the grip mount, held in with one screw - and put it back on..... :doh:

Good stuff, might pay to check it occasionally to make sure it's still working though. Mine was OK after it was removed and the little plastic lever fully released, but started sticking again after a while, needed a wee bit of surgery on the plastic inside to sort it.

- I was about to go back and get my warrant, checked it first - snap, not working.. Dodgy internal pin.

For anyone reading this in future, I replaced the whole brake switch to fix the issue - it seems to be one solid piece and can't be taken apart to fix..
