Shit head radio ads now airing.

Here's the complaint to the ASA and BSA:

A complaint has been made regarding the programme:
ACC Anti-Motorcyclist advertisement
Date: 20/06/2011
Time: 12:00:13
Channel: Other (Other)
Standards breached:
Radio Code 1 Good Taste and Decency
Radio Code 5 Accuracy
Radio Code 6 Fairness
Radio Code 7 Discrimination and Denigration
Reason(s) for breach:
The Accident Compensation Corporation has been airing an advertisement on The Solid Gold FM radio Stations and possibly other stations. This advertisement was aired at noon on 20th June 2011. This advertisement involves an actor trying to book an ambulance to follow him on an upcoming motorcycle trip because he expects to have an accident on the trip. In my view this advertisement is anti Motorcyclist and falsely shows Motorcyclists as irresponsible and careless of their own well being, which to any member of the motorcycle community is an affront. The advertisement also continues to promulgate ACC's blatant lie that Motorcyclists are twenty times more likely to be injured in an accident than other motorists. This advertisement is likely to fuel the unsympathetic and dangerous attitudes Motorcyclists have to endure from other motorists and which are the cause of many accidents involving Motorcyclists. To follow is an excerpt from a speech by Professor Charles Lamb of Lincoln University: “ACC have been stating the fact that motorcyclists are 16 times more likely to have an accident than other road users – this is NOT correct. Motorcyclists are only 1.6 times more likely than cyclists to have an accident – and only 3 times more likely than car drivers to have an accident. ” The full speech can be downloaded from this website: http://www.bikersagainstacc.org.nz/ I would like the BSA to direct ACC to withdraw this advertisement.

Was the adds purpose just to attempt to portray us as high risk? Generally that has been combined with another angle so far.

... and publish a retraction via the same media.
Also...

The retraction advert must be aired for the same amount of time that they were broadcasting their form of bullshit propaganda.
Otherwise they will be made to have one brief statement saying they were in the wrong.

Why are the ACC even advertising? What are they advertising? It is not like they have any competitors to lure customers away from.

a letter to the Munster of ACC might also be thought to be appropriate.

I don't listen to the radio, too many annoying ads. But Pixie taking the trouble to complain about a clearly biased ad is definitely worth some green bling!
