Winter Solstice, shortest day, longest night yaddayadda...it's upon us anyway. From now on the days will get longer - well, until December anyway...
So have you celebrated the return of the sun with a mid-winter ride yet? Or have you just lard-arsed around the house eating pies and gargling the booze?
If it's the latter, git yr arse out there and dust off the cobwebs - cold air is bracing (so I'm told).
And yes, I did my bit this morning despite wet roads and loony traffic. Pretty bloody tame though I'd hafta say...and fairly short too. C'mon summer...

no choice, it is a work day so it is a ride day. Looking forward to riding in daylight.

I midwinter ride every single day. Love it.
Nothing better than crisp, cold morning traffic light GPs with the Evos and XR6 Falcons on my 15km commute.
Ya see and hear some fucken funny things too.
Like the other morning, I passed three cyclists just before the Haywards lights heading south. Lights are red and I'm first in the que in the left lane. Traffic from Haywards is turning onto river road on their green light, two lanes of em. Two of the cyslists blast straight through the red on the breakdown lane, not looking or slowing down. Third cyclist stops next to me. I pop the visor and ask "What's up with those guys?"
His reply "They're fuckwits! No need for that sort of shit in busy traffic." I lolzd.

I am very concerned that it won't be cold enough :( rain should be a certainty but I'm sure the punters will feel ripped off if we don't get some frost, sleet & snow also.;)

Chance would be a fine thing. We are yet to get "cold" up here. Maybe a few times of hurty fingers after my commute, fitted heated grips and broke out in hot sweats using them
Will be on the road at 7:15am tomorrow as usual :sunny:

Ms hellokitty was to get her new bike today and missed out...
I was rude enough to rub in the fact I got my curtains :pinch:

Yeah it was meant to be Saturday. Then it was Monday afternoon, Tuesday morning at the latest. Now it is Wednesday. I am beginning to think I imagined the whole thing... it is a figment of my imagination.

What sort of bike? I am probably a little slow and have overlooked a thread already discussing it I am sure.

My big girls bike! I am moving from a 750 Honda to a 1200cc Harley Sporty.

Nor down 'ere neiver. No frost days recorded so far this winter. Now THAT is rare...
For what it's worth, the man on the radio said the exact time of solstice was 5.19am this morning. So the sun is now approx 6 hrs 12 minutes on the way back...or 0.14147% of the way.

Midwinter ride is every day Slofox,
I did celebrate in style couple of days ago though.
It was cold in the morning so I turned my trusty heated grips on. I am always very conscious of turning them off cause I don't have the fancy Relay mod installed cause I am too lazy
But - as usual I am dumb so I left in on. Late at night I go to turn the key and the usual snappy EFI sound is someone more lazy then normal and I notice the lights on the headed grips come on and know exactly what I have done :weep:
No worries I thinks, and I remember that the cleaver people at Oxford have a power saving feature which prevents the battery from running completely flat so I should be able to bump start it. I push it down our slight incline in the cold dark rain and dump the clutch only to hear the familiar sound of the slipper clutch which is so useful at Hampton Downs Sigh
Oh well, parked it up and brought the charger and various tools in to work the next day, I should really get the relay installed.

Ever since I sold the car, whenever I need to travel further than walking distance I ride - regardless of the weather or time of year. In Auckland it isn't even all that cold in June.
