Hi guys,

planing on going to Malaysia in october, any one know about bike rentals over there? I have tried to find some on google, didn't work very well.

any experiences appreciated

It didn't seem too bad in Malaysia... packed, but not insane. Vietnam was a real eye-opener :shutup:. The further north you went, the worse they were. Hanoi has 7 million inhabitants and 5 million bikes, mainly step-throughs. Lost count of the accidents we saw although in fairness, most of them were due to gross over-loading!

There is an ex-pat run bike tour company operating in East Malaysia http://www.borneobikingadventures.com/BBA/public/home.asp.
BIKE did a very favourable article a couple of years back. There are new roads winding over what was rain forest but is now under palm oil plantations.

If it's like West Malaysia though it'd pay to keep a bit in reserve to allow for random water buffalo.

i do agree with riding in Vietnam, Hanoi was really crazy but fun, I rode motorbike in Thailand, had there honda steed 400 that was pretty much fun, much faster through the trafic and congestions of SUVs ;)

we are there only two weeks, so buying would be a hassle ;))
singapore has some rental but you can't go over the border, thats not much helpful too.

yesterday i saw a little version of vietnam here in wellington, on willis street, six or seven scooters drove in front of the first car and raced across on green light, rather amusing ;)

Hahaha - the attached photo is one I took from our hotel window in Hanoi in non-rush hour. Hence, it was light by Hanoi standards. Another photo is the use of of a step-through for interesting commercial purposes :innocent: another is a family day out on a scooter.

The traffic lights in Vietnam have a count-down timer. They all seem to play by the reules but it would be perfect for drag racing in the west:innocent:
