I'm moving to central Auckland soon and hoping to get my L plate somewhere thereabouts. I don't drive cars and I'm not too familiar with the wider Auckland area, so I was rooting around for training facilities near the CBD, but so far the closest I've found is Rider Training over west at Massey U or a number up in North Shore.
Are there any closer ones I've missed?

Can't answer your question sorry but my girlfriend did her bsh last saturday with Rider Training at Massey in Albany (North shore, not west), good people, would recommend them if you can't find something closer.
Pretty sure there are buses direct from CBD to Massey campus anyway.

Was that a guy called Carl Timmis? If so, nice guy!
I really like Doug Swanson - he does it at AUT.

Doug Swanson comes down to AUT? Auckland U of Tech? I thought he was based up north! From what I could find online, at least.

Doug Swanson lives out West as far as I know. He came to my work in Albany for a lesson, before my full test, and my husband did his basic handlers thing at AUT on the North Shore.

I'm not up with rider training but Passrite are in Onuhunga.
Heres the link. http://www.passrite.co.nz/default.asp?sid=70&cid=-392232913&aid=
Worst aspect of riding in Auckland that I hate is the tendency of car drivers to do U turns in stupid places....that and cars.

Bwaaahaha... I rocked up there once ( a few years ago now) to do a defensive driving course to reduce my time on restricted. Ironically the first night i turned up i was anything but defensive... Backing into and knocking over a rubbish bin (proper council installed permanent one).

I got mine from http://www.safelearner.co.nz/ and it was at ponsonby, I used to live downtown and was in a similar transport predicament, I ended up walking there and back (took about an hour each way.)
If you're really stuck and need a lift (and it's the weekend) I could probably give you a lift in to where it is.

What kind of package were you wanting? Have a look at our website and the packages we offer and we might be able to get you sorted in Mt Roskill on a Sunday morning. Send us a email at info@ridertraining.co.nz or call us on 0800 LRN2RD

I did my BHS at Pass Rite in Royal Oak many years ago, but as others have said, they've since moved to Onehunga.

I did mine with RiderSkills in January, There are a couple of locations, one's at the unitec at Mt Albert on the weekends, and during the week at Te Atatu Rd. Philip is the head instructor and a top guy, really patient. As soon as I got my Learner I went back to him and did the Confident Rider course. Highly recommend them!
