Six weeks ago I had this idea... Get another bike :2thumbsup
" found this forum while looking"
Ok so its been 15 years since my last bike & prob 20 since my
last dirt bike:lol:
So anyway I picked up a 05 XR250 from Gisborne..
"my first dirt bike with a disc brake"
didn't have it 5mins & I'm looking for things to mod:(
Desided I don't need a bike quit this high looks as if
I can lower it 50mm with out to much drama...
Ordered a set of bark buster..should save me a standing order
at the local bike shop for levers.:(
It came with a mickey mouse set of tyres .
half worn nobb on the rear & MT90 on the front that things
going to give great down hill brakeing on the dirt.."yer right"
So I have a set of Dunlop 605s to go on... look like they should
work on dirt and seal.
I won't go on about the prise of rideing gear now..i need a full set.
LOL.. I was in a tight ass mood & got a $85 helmet of TM... put it on/off a few times then back in its box where it will stay...
So I still need a helmet...
I will head for the hills on the week end & try some of this new fang dangle
adventure rideing , only had dirt/trail riding in the old days..
friday I will tell the boss I may not be in monday..

PS..Cheap helmet for sale...

nice one Pete...an welcome to the ADV forum :2thumbsup: yup you gonna have to get some good gear alright, you don't have to spend a fortune there is some good stuff around at reasonable prices...good set of boots (alpine stars, sidi) would be my advice...don't go near the soft "adventure" boots out there they are useless when you need them!

anywho....hope you enjoy your foray into the BEST time your gonna have on two wheels, Adventure riding

Good stuff Pete - you will have a blast - I am +1 for night falcon's comment - I tried to do a bit of beach riding with road boots on - bloody stick went right through them (missed my leg though - phew) doesn't need to be expensive I picked up a pair of mint Forma MX boots for $40 of TM, set of new body armour for the same - you just need to know your size, keep looking and be prepared to wait for the right stuff - helmets they be a different thing, reckon you need to get them from a shop but again you can pick up a decent new adventure helmet for less than $200 - this forum has heaps of threads about gear use the search function and learn from other people's mistakes I say!

Oh and coming from Blenheim - careful about that lot over the hill!

Blenheim is awesome for riding, be sure to get up Mt Patriarch, the Branch, Onamulutu, and the river reserve is all good fun.
