Hi all

I am looking at full insurance for the gs and I have narrowed it down, based on price to Swann or Kiwibike.

Are there any opinions as to whether either is better or are they much of a muchness?

cheers
Tracy

Kiwibike are brokers for Swann and Protecta, so chances are the quote you got from them was for cover from Swann anyway.

Kiwibike always do a better deal than dealing with either insurance co direct.

And, Kiwibike are awesome :first:

Dont stop there, I have recently changed Insurers and saved myself $300 for the same deal...full comprehensive....$300 from insurer to another!

Do I need to chip in another vote for Kiwibike?

As said, they broker for Swann (amongst others), so if they are the best deal, you may end up with both

Thanks. Interestingly with the online quotes Swann was a bit cheaper than Kiwibike but it sounds like giving Kiwibike a ring would be a good plan :)

how easy is it to understand the policy between the insurers?

I personally put some emphasis on this aspect, if I dont understand the policy clearly and easily, I look for another policy/company.

Just rang Kiwibike and ended up getting the deal through them with Swann :)

Good deal with a low excess, free roadside assist and $3,500 gear/helmet cover

can't argue with that

I rang kiwibike twice within a few days and got two very different quotes. One for $300 the other for over $400.

I thought they looked at all their insurers and told you the best but apparently they just pick one randomly and quote that to you.

Kiwibike is good if you have your full licence. If your on leaner or restricted NAC is much cheaper (but more expensive for a bigger bike).

l was with Dave at Kiwibike but then shopped around and got a quote direct from Swann who lm with now, l have 5 bikes fully insurerd for a little over $600 p/yr and Dave couldnt match that price or even come close, even through swann.

I understand that Swann no longer offer earthquake cover.

Yes to Kiwibike Insurance, and yes to Swann.
When I bought my 86 gsx,Dave arranged cover for the bike, although he did say Swann rarely cover bikes 20yrs old,to which I said mine was 19 at time, was cheap too, then traded bike and cover transferred from old to new bike.

Due to me having surgery and unable to ride(2-3 months),I requested via letter to Swann to put my cover on hold and maybe swap to fire and theft, found out my letter went unanswered as was sent to wrong address. So the upshot was after calling Swann they gave me same cover for nearly half price previous via Kiwibike premium.Same cover, almost like they realised I was with them via a broker, and didn't want to pay them the commission.

How would I contact Kiwibike? Had never heard of them until reading this thread.

Swann are great. Low cost, easy to deal with and I had a semi major claim (5k+) all cleared up no hassles. Top bunch of guys.

We have three bikes insured with Swann. All for full cover, all for over $4500 each. This includes up to $3500 cover on gear for both rider and pillion, that's each! All for less than $600..pa.
Had one claim so far, once it was established that the accident was a no blame event they reimbursed our full no claims bonus and lowered our premium the next year.
Can't say enough good things about them.
They took a personal interest in us and to this day they make time when we ring.Ring Auckland and ask for Brook, he's a damn fine young fella.

Is that $3500 each or combined for rider and pillion gear?

We have had no real complaint with AMI on the occaision we made a motorcycle related claim, but we are paying more than you guys are indicating here, and the claim rquired a house contents claim for the damaged gear in addition to the Motorcycle claim for the damaged bike.

Thinkig it might be worth me making a call to KiwiBike.

My bike is with AMI. Costs $143 per quarter, $572 per year for an $8,000 cover. I never bothered shopping around, at the time, as all our insurances are with them and it was easier to just lump everything in one basket.

With never having claimed on a vehicle in my 45 years driving/riding. I should try comparing premiums.

Highlander, Nope that's per person.
So if we were both on the one bike and came off it's a grand total of 7 G's if it was all written off.
Then of course if the bike was a write off another $4500.
They are easy to deal with and have showed real concern for our welfare and followed up throughout the claims process and after.

$572 per year for an $8,000 cover

That $600 per year l mentioned was for 5 bikes total amount covered is $23,000 but they are all pre 89 [classic cover 20 years old]
