To be honest you can do a better job with a bunch of hose and fill with auto trans fluid. Make sure it is at least 1.2m high and filled halfway with fluid. Then it would need to be long enough to reach to the carbs. Start pre warmed machine at fast idle, 1500-2000rpm [Not choke] and get ready to kill if it sucks fluid too quick up any of the tubes. You can do it more easily if you just use 1 tube connected each end to 2 of the carbs and when they are in balance, move one end to next carb. This entails making sure you are not upsetting previoius adjustments; ie possibly 1 carb is not adjustable as the throttle cable connects directly to it, and therefore the other 3 carbs are adjusted relative to that 1 carb. Hope this makes sense and it is easy to do. The oil filled hose is much more accurate than vacuum guages or a mercury manometer. If you use the one hose[one loop] method you can also just squeeze the hose to stop the oil sucking away as if there is a significant imbalance, this takes place quite quickly. Worst case scenario is a smoky garage if you are too slow. Have fun and take your time and you will get it perfect. See below link and scroll down to carb sync.

Why not four tubes, fastened to a board side by side? Each hose attached to a carb, any imbalance will be immediately obvious.

Need one to set carbs on a four cylAny bike shop can get you a Motion Pro one. They're not pro robust, but quite adequate, and not expensive.
The board with tubes works fine too, a bit more fiddly, no dampening adjustment, etc etc, but cheap cheap. I'm not sure I'd go as far to say you can do a better job, but you'll get the job done.
How does the feeler gauge thing work?

Thats like the BMW airheads ....put a pencil under each slide and watch them move..... I just do it by feel and sound on a twin..... got a set of mercury guages in the garage....but they are probably no longer approved for use...:innocent:

Thanks for your replys.
mate and I have had a go making some which seem to work really well and takes up very little room and doesn't use fluid.
will let you know how it turns out once we have balanced them we will get it checked by bike shop.
