Now everyone has heard what a beautiful noise the Honda 6 made but listen to these...

First one is from a 1964 Honda 125cc 4-cylinder (yes 4 !!) GP bike (RC-146 I think)
This developed 30hp at 17,000rpm, revved to 19,000rpm and had an 8 speed gearbox.

Second one is from a 1964 Honda 50cc twin (once again twin!!) GP Bike (RC-115).
Produced 15hp @ 20,000rpm and could safely rev to 23,000rpm !!
Had a 9 speed gearbox.

Both engines are DOHC 4 valves.

Turn your sound up loud and hear these babies scream !!!

Just more risk adverse, not as willing to try new things. The metallurgy on Mr Hondas
bike is mind blowing, kinda hard to reproduce with modern tech. The man was brilliant.

Get this ....

If Honda hadn't pulled out at the end of 1967....for 1968 there were rumours that they were going to do a :-

50cc triple
125cc six-cylinder
and a 250cc V8 !!!!!!

THAT is mind-blowing !!

When George Beale was building the replicas of the 6 cylinder bikes, they used steel for the transmission gears, as they could not duplicate the hardening process that Honda used on titanium gears.
Good article here: http://www.motorcyclistonline.com/features/122_honda_rc174_six/index.html

I'm a Two Stroke GP fan at heart but when ol' boys wax lyrical about MV's and such I can understand...even had the pleasure of hearing Ago on the six at Pukekohe.

Had a 9 speed gearbox. Both engines are DOHC 4 valves.

during this era most most Jap manufactures were using 2 strokes like the Suzuki RK50 twin, but Honda had a issue with strokers so built 4 strokes, heres ya RC115 which replaced the single 50 RC110 (the vid i posted previous) check out the size of the pistons compaired to the finger... emagine the valves.

One of my favourite pictures - was from the Two Wheels article on the Beale RC174s.
Conrod and piston compared to a credit card.
