My speedo on my CXR250RS only reads on the odometer but not on speed. But when I put a drill on the end of the speedo cable it reads speed. Any ideas?
Cable must be turning to get the Odo reading.

Most likely the drive wheel between the odo and speed is worn down.....it will work some times but other times there isn't enough pressure on the sproket to drive the speedo.....if you can open up the speedo your see what almost look like a flat spot on the sprocket

Oh I see. I get that. Is it hard to fix? Guess it needs to go to www.robinsoninstruments.co.nz as you said on the other thread. Maybe give them my tach that doesnt work to.

My speedo on my CXR250RS .
:stupid:
CBX250RS.
But seriously its odd that the odometer counts the k's you are doing no problem but the speed needle doesnt go up... Id say its in the instrument itself.

Thats what I would think. They would be a lot more accurate than the factory one. You calibrate it to your tyre size. Accurate to 1/100th of a k.
Only thing they may say is I cant see it at night. Can rig a light for it if needed.

I think dogsnbikes is right. Will contact his link, have also e-mailed the honda dealer. But these are cool, give you average speed, trip distance, time on ride(starts automatically.).

BEWARE ... some pendantic testing places go on the theory ... if it's fitted ... it MUST work. Therefore ... if the original speedo is fitted still, (at time of testing) it MUST work.
Nothing in the reg's I've seen REQUIRE lighted speedo's ... just must be fitted with a working speedodometer ...

Now fixed!!
Turns out going back through the reciepts from last year I got with the bike it had a new speedo drive fitted. When I would put a drill on the cable the speedo would work. But not on the bike. Sooo, I thought during the middle of the night that maybe the new drive did not push the cable up enough into the speedo. So this morning I put a bit of cut cable tie in the cable to fill the slot a bit. Took it for a ride and bingo, all works.

huh, interesting..does that mean the cable wasn't quite long enough then?

In a way but I would say the hub drive for the speedo as its new is not exactly the same as stock. the plastic I put in is 3ml long so not out by much but enough to cause a fault.
Gotta say everything on this bike has been a very easy fix. :woohoo:
Its ready for a WOF now.

Yup, it just needed a charge and some fresh petrol. Starts first pop and runs really well. Only thing Ive not got working is the tach now. Thats a saturday job. Found a new seat cover in red to. Spare wheels had brand new tyres!!
