People of the bucket racing world, I'm considering, thinking about, possibly, looking at, joining your world. However my knowledge of this world consists of "its racing" and "FXR's are a popular choice" other than that my title pretty much sums up the rest of my knowledge on the subject.
I am in Wellington (well region anyways), have a stock standard FXR150 minus the batt (weight reduction ) & as I am upgrading in bike size (after 10yrs ) but want to retain the "beast" that is the FXR someone suggested bucket racing could be a good n fun use for it, so here I am looking to become less ignorant on the world of bucket racing

Best you check out
http://www.bucketracing.co.nz/
and then get along to Kaitoke on the 17th to have a look at things. If you plan to get on track make sure the bike is nyloned up to Kart track spec, nothing metal should be able to contact or damage the track when you go down.
Great bunch down there and the best kart track currently in use by buckets in my opinion.

Bullshit, Bucket racing isn't addictive, I could give it up any time I like.

Your well on your way to joining the most under rated, most participated (if the last TRRS was anything to go by) form on motorized addiction.
Even if you don't have your bike ready come along with your gear and ask to borrow a bike. There is usually a bike you can borrow. Hopefully I'll have a spare bike (if its there you can borrow) there myself in case I repeat my escapades of the last 2 rounds finding out how not to go around corners.

As above, bring gear and coin. (its $45 to race for the day.)
You may be able to swing a full day, or maybe just a session to see if you like it, I dunno its not up to me.
Be there early.

hey cheers for the responses guys, seems I could end up getting involved with a good bunch of addicts here .
Might have to get me along to the next welly meet just for a look around, see what its all about & what I'll have to do to my FXR to get it addict ready once my sis has finished falling off it. Guess I'll need to start sorting out some gear for when I start falling off :D
oh and jaffaonajappa, your welcome

There are a few fxrs you can look at to get ideas on what to do.
Great plan converting your bike to a bucket racer, I wish I had kept my road fxr.
Hopefully see you at the next round.

I had successfully quit for 16 years until this bunch of bastards gave me a ride on one, now I am thinking about the bloody things when i wake up (unless her indoors is in a giving mood) and Henk may as well live in a mobile home the amount of time he spends on the road looking for his fix.

I am in Wellington...
Scuba Steve. :yes:You will need all the knowledge of Jaques Cousteau if you plan on bucket racing at Kaitoke... or you could move to a town where it never rains very much at all sometimes and the possibilty of inclement weather is improbable, but should not be discounted. Anyone wanting to move to Roy's Hill ( I mean Hawkes Bay ) we can help with relocation costs to boost numbers.

I would really like to have a witty comeback for that but I can't really fault the logic, it rains alot more here than it does there.

well Roy's Hill might help with the buckets, but lack of falling Dihydrogen Monoxide would hinder my dirt bike'n & 4wd'n

Put some slicks on the dirt bike and you can ride motards at Roy's Hill as well as buckets like the guy who has come down 2 months in a row from Wakatane with a 'Tard and an F4 bucket. ( I think there is a H somewhere in Whakatane).
As for the 4wd'n thingy, I think we got some hills out the back and it probably rains there sometimes???

Isn't riding down from Te Mata Peak on a push bike with only pedal brakes the local equivalent?

 it's an old CR250 not really built for kart tracks, plus it was brought for it's dirt abilities so taking it on-track would kinda make it's use redundant, also I agree with persil "mud is good :)". You got good sales pitch tho
