Hya all,
Been riding for about 2 months and had my eye on these forums for about twice that. I love the community here, plenty of people giving good advice, no childish ego battles etc. Moved to Hamilton this christmas with family, didn't mind either as Waikato University reputably has the best computer science department in the country. Then decided I finally had enough excuses to buy myself some private transport.
I went with the fxr150 because its the best deal I could find (250s are over priced once you look at the k's). I would never have believed you can buy a vehicle in this condition, give it brand new set of pireillis + wof + 1 yr reg for around $2000NZ.
Unfortunately, I got tired of the 150cc engine in a week and have to throw myself into corners to get that thrill again. I'll hold on to it until I have my full licence after I finish my degree and have a job, then get at least a 600cc.
Rode to Raglan and back on saturday, some cool corners in the hills, luckily I made them all.
Max speed of ~134 is a pain in the ass,can go faster but don't want to go over 12,000rpm. :nono:

Hmm might have to keep an eye out for your bike when I ride by the Uni then. Only live about a 10 min walk from there.
Have to see about setting up some sort of weekly (or more likely monthly) meet for us Hamilton riders. (Raglan, Te Awamutu, Cambridge, Huntly and anyone close enough included)
See ya on the roads mate.

@Waylander: Would love to do something like that maybe for 1-2 hours if its weekly, more if its monthly. Allthough you may get a little bored waiting for the 150 to keep up :)

Lol Mate I've been off my bike for the last 5 months almost so I wont be booking it all that much. If you can keep it at about 100 to 110 then it's all sweet. Have to get myself a steady cashflow before I can try orginizing something though. But feel free to set one up yourself.

And welcome to the wide world of motorcycling too! :ride:

I recommend that you get plenty of road time experience on your 150cc first, wear good *full* riding gears, and get to know your own limitations as you improve your riding style in preparation to upgrade to a bigger, more powerful motorcycle! :2thumbsup

Welcome Pathos to Monster Garage.
As you've found out, the 150 isn't made for speed because it's mostly a learners bike and an outstanding reliable cheap running commuter machine which is actually cheaper to run than a scooter and can still do the ton if required.
Fully agree that 250cc bikes are seriously over priced, hence why I bought the my FXR new back then.
There are quite a few current and past owners of FXR150's here.
Welcome to Kiwi Biker Pathos.

What do you mean by Full riding gear? I know I should get some better stuff...
For trousers I only have jeans (dense cotton as well) and I wear sneakers (I am only 20 so I am invincible and my ankles won't break).
I know I should get some proper boots but they're expensive. The jeans will be a write off in an accident but would they be enough for around town? I can't really carry another set of trousers to Uni every day.
My jacket and gloves will be alright, they're both leather and seem tough enough.
The 250cc's are overpriced because there's so much demand for them and no one seems to have bought a new one since the early 90's (??!). You can get a brand new GSX for a good price though.

Anything short of that and you'll break bones and lose skin...and that's even riding at 10kmph speeds!
Please don't learn about the neccessity of full riding protection the hard, irreversible way! :nono:

Hmm, you'll want to get a pair of boots very soon. Even just a pair of sturdy work boot would be better than sneakers. Leather pants can wait for a while as jeans do ok provided they are well made. Wranglers and Levis are the ones I've found to be the best. A good leather jacket will help protect you even if it doesn't have armour.
Most riding pants you can wear over your jeans but what do you care if others thing you look silly walking around your classes in leather pants? they'll shutup when you get on your bike.:Punk:
