Dunno . Have you looked in the mirror lately ? If your "apostrophe thing" is missing other bits might be too (nice euphemism for it by the way)

Surely though your first post was not mearly to incite such an argument was it?

not at all. Was merely typing in the Queens' English. Of all the things, I didn't think that was going to become the focus of the thread...

Yes I noticed that after a second. I imprudently followed Bugjuice there.

Then perhaps you would countenance to tell us what you meant by your opening statement?

(where the hell did all this come from? I'm actually using big words properly...)

Ok but by that it suggest that the whole apostrophe usage was the point of your first post, wich you said it wasn't.

At any rate there can only be one Queen at a time right? As in the Queen of England and by that aswell the provinces, wich I think is what New Zealand is to England. Buggerd if I know though, don't see how a country can be it's own when the ruler resides in another.

Anyway as there can be only one queen at a time that would rule out the purpose of plural so it would just be "Queen's" rather than "Queens'," not sure if that makes any sense.

:brick: the point of the first post is the image/jpg... not the words.. the words are there, cos I had to put something there.

There can only be one queen at a time, but the title of Queen is passed, not named.

Can't believe we're quickly onto the second page, and it's all about where I put the apostrophy in the sentence I started with!!!
Well I thought the jpg was funny..

Yes. It does "belong" to the Queen. Therefore the apostrophe does come before the s.

k Hitch. what does 'BDOTGNZA' stand for? I've read it each time you've posted it and waited for anyone else to ask, but I think it's just me... go on, please explain..

Just to be a snotnose....the Queen refers to Herself as "We", presumably in reference to the royal lineage, so conceiveably the term "Queens' " could be argued as being plural-possessive, therefore correctly having the apostrophe after the s
