Just been looking at my bank statement and the weekend has cost me $75 in petrol :eek5:

I did the Coro loop on Sat and rode to Helensville through scenic drive on Sun.....

On Sat - "trying" to keep up with the fast guys - I paid $12.35 for 87 kms - I ride a ZZR 250 and use 91oct....

Is this normal??

you'll smell it, see it in the smoke, and your plugs would be fuct if it's rich.
$12 for 87kms does sound a bit lame tho. Would have thought in your bike, you'd be looking at a longer range like 250kms + for about $10-$15..
My ol' CBR250 used to do 200ks on $10. The 636 does the same on $18 (used to be 15..) and that's always 96/98. Check the plugs and see if they're screwed up. Also, when were the carbs last serviced? You've had a few knocks lately, could have put some floats out a smidge.. And the choke isn't stuck on, is it.....?

I manage 150 or less on 10 bucks worth

I think you've made some great points there....

I'm thinking of changing the plugs and oil soon. How much would a carb service cost?? The carbs were supposed to have been serviced around November.

I also want to change the brake pads sometime later this month.

brake pads are easy. Just buy them and fit them yourself. Can't really go wrong. Same with the oil, filter and plugs.
As for a carb service. Dunno. Have to call into a bike shop and ask. The bike will run heaps better if you get it all done at the same time, or can do it around the same time

Thanks for that!!

I will do all of the above hopefully somewhere in the last half of July. I know how to change the oil and filter - will need to find out how to figure out how to do the plugs and pads... no biggie will work through the manual or "phone a friend" :)

By the way - when people say - Tune-up - what do they mean????

If its drinking that much I might even suspect a petrol leak.

Does anyone know if it could be related to the loose exhaust header on one of the cylinders?

You sure you didn't just forget to reset the trip meter when gassing up? ;)

Resetting the trip meter is a habit - I use it to judge how far i can travel.

I believe it is 87kms from Papakura Autobahn to the Mobil at Kopu - I filled at the AB and filled again at Kopu......
