If your out there, I'd like to say thankyou again, you saved me a huge hassle!
Went for a ride to palmy yesterday from Wanganui, and while leaving Palmy I went to fill up my bike.
Anyway, as I went to pay for it I realized that I left my eftpos card at home and couldn't pay! They couldn't let me read out my visa card numbers (don't carry it with me) to pay. So it was either get somebody to bring my eftpos card to me from Wanganui, or fill out a form and return to that specific store to repay.
While I'm on the phone sorting out what I'm going to do, some guy turns around and says "Don't worry about it mate, I've paid for you" and then goes on to say that he used to be a biker too and knows what it's like. I asked him for his number so I could repay (after thanking him many times) but he just said don't worry about it, and left in what I think was a Subaru Forester.

It was only $20 or so, but man, he saved me a HUGE hassle and if anybody knows who this man is then please thank him again. Really made my day. Just goes to show there are some amazing guys (and bikers) out there.

Most petrol stations have UTP forms (Unable to Pay). If this happens to you the safest course of action is to fill up and play dumb (oops I lost my wallet) & fill out the form. You get one copy and they keep one copy with the promise that if you don't come back and pay up they will sic the debt collectors on you.

Careful that you don't actually ASK for a UTP form, you will get processed as a 'drive off' which is very bad.

What a coincidence.

Must be be nice to Bikers at gas station day. I filled at Upper Hutt Caltex this morning and used the instore ATM but left my card still inserted in the machine - i.e. pin entered!

Go to pay at Cafe in Martinborough 2 hours later when it hit me

Quick blast back over the hill expecting to find the max $500 cash has been withdrawn and my card busy doing the rounds of every brothel in the Hutt. At least it wouldn't show as having any unusual activity

Some nice honest Dude who used the ATM after me handed it in at the counter. Just when you think the world is full of scum after a week of the usual murder and mayhem in the News a stranger reminds you there are good people amongst us. Shame I can't even thank the person.

...you entered your pin and you just walked away???
cause i didn't think you could get your cash without pulling the card right out

Great story. Would have been better if you'd put $30 in

Accept the good fortune and don't curse your luck so badly the next time things go wrong for you.

Yeah - his issue was he didn't want to have to go back to Palmy to pay the same gas station.

Dunno why - good excuse to go for another ride.

OP - I agree. Pay it forward. And maybe stash a secret $20 in your jacket if you're the forgetful type.

Nah. I took $60 cash out then decided to check the balance so I re-inserted card, entered pin, got bal. THEN walked away. Like the irritating TV ad ..Just walk away...

Just when you think the world is full of scum after a week of the usual murder and mayhem in the News ...When the Dalai Lama was in NZ he commented that as long as "murder and mayhem" was in the news he wasn't worried. When it becomes commonplace and stops being news, thats the time to start worrying.
