ok, well, before I start, I am quite sure that it isnt made in this method anymore. also Id like to point out I was looking for something else when I stubled upon this

or Fire from Urine</CENTER><CENTER style="MARGIN: 0px">
"More than 300 years ago, in 1669, Hennig Brand, a Hamburg alchemist, like most chemists of his day, was trying to make gold. He let urine stand for days in a tub until it putrified. Then he boiled it down to a paste, heated this paste to a high temperature, and drew the vapours into water where they could condense - to gold. To his surprise and disappointment, however, he obtained instead a white, waxy substance that glowed in the dark. Brand had discovered phosphorus, the first element isolated other than the metals and non-metals, such as gold, lead and sulphur, that were known to the ancient civilisations. The word phosphorus comes from the Greek and means light bearer."</B></I>

It is nowdays made by reduction of phosphate rock. China is the largest world supplier. Phoisphorus manufacture presents a number of extremely serious OSH and environmental problems. Basically, don't get a job there. Very very nasty stuff phosphorus. Very nasty indeed.

I just had to open this thread didn't I.
On the other hand considering that what you quoted says that phosphorus is made from pee, I'm more worried about what exactly you were searching for..

Definately . Nasty stuff
Thermate and phosphorus burns are the worst and most agonizing burns because thermate and phosphorus burn at such a high speed and temperature that one particle of those chemicals burns through almost everything (skin, nerves, muscles and even bones), even in places where there is little or no oxygen. In addition, white phosphorus is very poisonous. A dose of 50-100 milligrams would be lethal for the average sized person.
If you DO mess about with white phosphorus, remember that it must always be kept under water to prevent it spontaneously igniting and killing everything in a wide radius.
I used to have some in a little jar, filled with water. Left it behind in a house I moved out of years ago. Always felt a bit guilty about that.

The old man told me about a guy he saw die after a bullet hit the white phosprorus grenade that the guy was wearing on his belt, reckoned it was not too flash a way to die - the phosphorus just kept burning into him and the bullet wound was nothing on the burning.

for the record I was doing a bit of research into thermite. you will notice its a bit further down the page :)

You wouldn't want to get some on either.

Wasn't it 'saltpeter' in some story? Or is that something completely different.
Are you supposed to keep it in oil or water? We had a trough in Chem (at high school) that we took outside, filled with water and our Chem teacher (wicked Welsh dude) threw this chunk of Ph into it...KABOOM!!!!
Great stuff...trough broken into two pieces from force. Na just pootled around on the surface of water glowing with flame.

Saltpeter is Potassium Nitrate - oxygenating ingredient in gunpowder
There is white and red phos, I think both have to be kept under water. Lithium, Sodium and Potassium metals are kept under oil - react with atmospheric water to form hydrogen and heat --> flame. Lithium is least reactive - fizzes in water in small quantities

That is correct. Saltpetre (or saltpeter) is nitrate of potash, or sometimes refers to nitrate of soda. Which was also originally extracted from urine, usually animal urine. There was a thriving business in Victorian times , going round the stables and removing the horse piss to extract the nitre.
The light alkali metals Na K Li must be kept under oil to prevent them reacting with the moisture in the air. Do not EVER throw metallic sodium or potassium into water.
Phosphorus (red or white, they are allotropic forms) must be kept under water. They will spontaneously ignite on exposure to air. White phosphorus is much nastier than red but both are nasty. Do not meddle with them
I regret leaving my supply of phosphorus behind,it has been a great inconvenience over the years not having it.

Unfortunately, as a scheduled poison, it is VERY hard to get. It is absurd the difficulties officialdom put in the way of obtaining things of this nature.

It terrifies me to think of what sort of lifestyle you must lead to be inconvenienced by a lack of phosphorus.
s'matter, napalm not good enough for you? :devil2:
2:1:1 by volume: Foam polystyrene, petrol and benzine - usually does the trick (and kero is a useable substitute for benzine - or so I've heard  )
Admittedly it doesn't spontaneously ignite on contact with air...

cheap alternative. polystyrene munched up as small as possible + petrol. mix well. light. dirty dirty black smoke.
thermite (really simply) iron oxide (rust) + aluminium filings mix well, use magnesium strip to light. will burn though a car/payphone/maybe a safe if you had enuf. remember to use goggles kids

I found anarchist's cookbook 2000 edition on my hard drive a week ago. plus a few random jolly rodger releases.
hmm I wonder if we start a 'how to make bombs' thread if we would get in trouble (either spankme or govt) I spose a 'this thread is for educational purposes only and production of these is illegal' disclaimer on the top.

"Anarchist's Cookbook" is seriously flawed - some would say deliberately so to wipe would-be dissidents out before they get a chance to cause damage.
I've found lots of weird "recipe" books over the years - good for a read.
