What a weekend!!

After officially selling the '96, Me, an' me good mate made a trip to Hamz Friday night to pickup the tatty but newer bike.

The new hack is a 01 Honda CR125. and has recently had a top to bottom rebuild, I still don't trust it though, I'll have it apart again in about 5-10 hours of ride time for a topend and decent inspection. (when we ran it it smelt like a lawn mower.... probably been treated like one 2 ... :oi-grr: )

It needs some serious TLC . When we saw it, it looked like it had been riden in the mud for about a week and left in the sun to bake on for a few months! faded plastics, rusty chain, worn rear tyre, mouldy air filter, bent bars, and dried mud everywhere! Lucily handed over nowhere near the market value for it though.

We've started dismantling for cleaning (and polishing that nice alloy frame =D ) and to make up a list of parts needed to get it up to the normal immaculate condition our past/current rides.

Looking good. Those CR's scrub up well don't they. That model wasn't the pic of the bunch in 01 but wasn't too far behind in the comparo.... RM took top honours in 01.

Yeah, I was pretty dead set on either a newer cr than I had or a KTM (the one in the pic is an ex-shayne king, with further mods..). Cr was cheaper and three years newer for the price.

Heres a pic of the old bike, the cr on the left. The new owner took it just the other day :( I woulda liked 2 have kept it but it was paying for the 01.

Nice to get a bargin - but who would treat an 01 like that? More money than brains. What would one of those weigh? 80kg? They don't list HP for dirt bikes these days, but they would be pushing close to 40hp I reckon, serious stonk.

It weighs 87 kg dry not sure about power but the 02 has 41.5 hp (quoted from www.motorbikes.be)... im assume at the crank. specs from off-road.com (http://www.off-road.com/dirtbike/sept2000/rick/2001HondaDB/).

I think the last owner keept an interest in riding but not in the bike itself. Its been well hammered! I've bought it off him with a comptetely fresh engine (well 9hrs), including a new crank and barrel.....obvious why!.

Definitely looking forward to getting out there on it.

Q: Why don't they have side stands attached to the body like majority of bikes?

Not on competion bikes,it's all about weight and minimising problems - trail bikes have side stands.

lol yep, had a last minute decision by some friends to get it out last weekend @ woodhill, and had a bit of a spill in the superbowl!

According to onlookers it was quite spectacular,

Riding anti clockwise in the bowl the front dug in aproaching the incline (top of 3rd) and the wheel turned out, leaving me no where to go but forward, now the bit between that and lying on the ground with the bike on me I can't remember! Im told I was flung about 4 meters and the bike somersaulted once in the air, eventualy landing on me.

Bruised, winded and very sore family jewels, I managed to ride away after 30mins of cursing and lying in the sand. First thought in my head at the time was westpac heli, im very glad (lucky??) I didn't need it!

The bike, surprisingly is OK, bar a broken rear fender, but hey, that was already up for replacement!

Apart from the mishap, had an awesome ride. Prolly be a little sketchy next time I visit the super-bowl though!
