View Full Version : Str8 Jacket Broken Arse - Summary of my weekend at Roy's Hill

Mixed bag for me. I have had a few issues with getting my head in the right place to allow me to race for the past year or so, so this weekend was one I was expecting alot of things from. Least of a broken arse....
Turned up Sat for 2 hour practice on my lil POS, it went fine and somehow I managed to get my head right and was looking forward to Sunday! Sat night was excellent fun at Jase's but I piked early to avoid a hangover....
Sunday was a minter. Went out in practice had a blast and felt pretty happy. Roy's Hill is a nice flowing track rather than a power track which suits me fine!
1st race (i think) managed to get a good start off the line but got passed by a couple of bikes. Was really getting into it when I came round the back hairpin and poor Clive had laid his bike down trying to avoid someone else. I tried to go round him but a bike came up close on that side and I hit his tyre. As my bike fell over me the foot peg and gear changer dug into my calve and snapped off. This cause immense pain for a few mins which caused the race to be red flagged. Unknown to me I had set the record for the first rider to cause a red flag at Roy's Hill (fuck i'm awesome!). Anyway, got up and stretched my calve and I was sweet. Got back to the pits and Jase was pushing someone's FXR over to me to ride. I got on that and restarted the race. I really enjoyed this persons FXR and managed to get a bit faster and smoother. Finished race no drama.
While this was going on Malcolm has fixed my own bike up and I rode this the next race.
Second race: Unfortunately the bike got stuck in 3rd gear so didn't really go to well. Had fun anyway....
Next race I was using the borrowed FXR got a good start and managed to have a few battles here and there but ended up on my own on the track which was good as I started to relax and get into the groove until I came round the small kink (corner) up to the start/finish line. I just was going to fast and I ran out of tyre. The bike went down fast and spat me off the back of it, I came down hard on my arse on the ripple strip and then cartwheeled and flew onto the grass. I was in a huge amount of pain but was really well looked after by all of the stewards and PMCC guy's, flag marshals, Janet, Malcolm along with friends and a dog while I was waiting for the ambulance.
Silly thing is, is that I never caught the name of the person whose bike I was borrowing but I would like to thank you for coming and telling me that the bike would be fine and that you weren't worried about it. I need to catch up with you!!
Update on injury:
Hairline fracture of my tailbone, sprained ankle and other assorted bruises and aches.
Despite all this I had a real blast and can't wait to get back up there again!

Thanks for not running me over Hel's. May I never have to do the same for you. Great to see you get your Mojo back and the girls and I are stoked the injuries are relatively minor. Bring on Kaitoke aye?

Yeah, I am going to have to get out there soon! Unfortunately with the doc ringing today to advise tailbone fracture it may not be for a couple of months. But I will get out there, have to get rid of my demons somehow!
Great story. Sorry about the fracture but heal soon chick

It's OK ... we have vivid imaginations ...
Hairline fracture of my tailbone...
OUCHY! I managed to crack my tailbone many years ago, hurt like a bastard.
Bit of advice Hels, once it starts to feel better, dont go horse riding ok? I actually think the fall out from that was worse than the original injury.

Dont be so mean to Clivoris! He is actually a nice guy, despite what some may say :dodge:
Hels had a fun day at the track.
She worked hard at getting her mojo back.
Race one, she was battling for third,
Down went Clive, he dropped like a turd,
Hels tried hard to not run him over,
but ended up sampling some local clover.
The first red flag at Roys Hill,
Was the result of this wee spill.
Hels was straight back out,
despite her calf taking quite a clout,
this time mounted on number eleven,
offered up by Crock like a gift from heaven.
She went very well in the next few races,
faster than expected by the look on some faces.
The corners and passes kept flowing,
Her confidence was rapidly growing.
In the last race of the day,
she went too far and and chucked it away,
in the tracks fastest corner, she found the limit,
went in too fast and managed to bin it!
From the low-side she slid on her backside,
which got a great whack as she crossed to the track-side.
Soon she was surrounded by lots of worried mates,
but to the joy of all, humour is one of her traits.
After the mornings convo on Rainey,
It was decided an Ambo was brainy.
As we waited for the medical truck,
in hindsight - she was as funny as...
Her Morphine level the Ambo' kept tweaking,
by the end of the trip he was amazed she was speaking!
She was far from in a daze,
she kept good humour 'till she got her X-rays,
the prospect of being kept in the ward for the night,
got her arguing with all of her might.
As our good friends had sorted the van,
going home that night became the new plan.
So home we trundled in the middle of the night,
against the pain, she put up a long fight.
Next day off work, she got a call on the phone:
"Hawkes Bay Hospital here, you broke your tail bone!"
Now I know, if I'm not helpful and careful,
I'm not dbound for a nagging ear-full,
but I know for sure, that with her usual class,
she'll turn around and tell me; to kiss her black arse!

Oh dear Hels. Get well soon.
Mal, you must be getting used to making that trip home avoiding the bumps.
First red flag? Doesn't surprise me. When I broke my clavicle there (trying to avoid someone, hmm.. . .) I managed to stupor off the track to the outside of the corner & the dumbarse marshall was beckoning me to run over to the inside of the track. It was as much as I could do to prop myself against a bale so I waved my working arm in protest to moving. So he waved me over more furiously. Some people need a wake up call. I'm actually fukn hurt! I thought at him, but even though I'm telekinetic, he must have been hard of telekinhearing.

Shame it's your right buttock or we could call you lefty !!
I just was going to fast and I ran out of tyre.
Another great reason to hang off more and start getting your knee down. It gives you an opportunity to pick it back up.

Yep, it's unfortunate but I know I need to 'slow down' and learn some technique in order to get faster without the dramatics!!

Sux man. Hope it is feeling better now. Was it a crap tyre thing or just a 2 keen thing. I know I had some painful crashes riding on substandard rubber. Now I just have really fast speculator crashes on good rubber. ummmm no lessons there. Carry on.

Arrgh, I was riding too fast for my abilities. Good learning curve. Would rather have done it on the go kart track than going faster at the "bigger track". Just felt stink as a) was riding a borrowed bike and b) held everyone up at the end of the day whilst I lazed about waiting for an ambulance.
UPDATE:
Pain has got worse as the week has gone on. I have a massive fluid build up which is causing alot of the pain and the bruises continue to keep growing up and across my bum.
All I can say is; Thank god for arnica!!

Yeah, have doc appointment tomorrow morn, where I hope to get some relief from the fluid - just got to be careful as near my operation site (blah blah).... Have job interview an hour after that and will stand if necessary, I have already postponed it from last Weds!! I am OK though, could be much much worse!!

OK, so I am being VERY lazy here. I have had a few PM's lately asking me how I am doing so thought I would update here (sorry for laziness)....
I went for my first ride since the accident this arvo (nearly 6 weeks on) and I was actually sweet as. Will be ditching the trains from tomorrow onward. Still swollen but I can almost wear my normal jeans again. Bruising gone.
Still got to convince doc for MNZ clearance. Might try for that next week. Thanks to those that have inquired as to my well being. I have to admit that this was one of the most painful experiences that I have had!!
