After 18 days straight getting on top of massive issues at work I could finally take some time off and get out for a ride. The weather was looking good down Central Otago way so a route was created, the bike was packed and I was off...

Below are a few pics but you can find the full ride report here: Full Ride Report (http://www.adventureguide.co.nz/articles/12/99/central-adv-ride-2011.php)

Great RR and exellent photos, I look forward to hitting some of those tracks/huts over summer, you are one keen man for going during winter.

Glad the Macaulay river was kinder to you than it was to me last time I was there.

Any chance of a GPS tracklog?

Cheers .chris, presumably you hit the Macaulay when it was up, it sure can turn into an impassable monster in no time eh

The entire trip was GPS logged, public access plus private access and land owners details, along with 10 vehicle access huts both DOC and private with owners details. All will available on the adventureguide website very soon. I had a good run before I got swamped at work and was uploading 1 track or location feature a day, I have a new guy starting soon to ease the load so will be back onto that and aiming to see the site coming together and publicly available asap

The GPX file downloads will be like this: Macaulay River track (http://www.adventureguide.co.nz/articles/12/47/macaulay-river.php) (Go to GPS - GPX File Downloads at the bottom of the page)
Plus it will be integrated with Garmin communicator so you can transfer them straight to a Garmin GPS

I still have to do some final testing as the GPX files are regenerated through a script I wrote to be compatible with any make/model GPS unit

Really looking forward to exploring all that area, aiming to base myself down there for a few months in summer due to the fact there is just so much riding down there and back and forth from Chch will be uneconomical

Josh hope you don't mind me putting this on here but you have really sold the place to those who may wish to come back.

Fantastic report & great pics Josh. I think we will have to list you as a navigation hazard on our jet boat trips!
Re the title - isn't this the McKenzie Country? I think you will find mostly Crusader supporters through there, not Highlanders.

Cheers mate, yes to be fair the area covered only scrapes on the top of Central and then shifts further north of Central into MCkenzie Country, and then into Canterbury as I neared home, mildly askew naming aside I simply can't get enough of trips down South, a simply stunning area with vast options for adventure riding!
