Well I recently tried out a new job in a small Christchurch engineering company and after 2 weeks are going to give the job a miss. The job wasn't what they said it was, the company has a really bad bully culture and I just don't like working there. So I have accepted a new job in Oamaru working for a small company as the engineer where it looks like I will be the only man working there.

Any KB action in Oamaru?

Go and see Andy Bolwell at Colin Clyne's shop - everything in Oamaru revolves around Andy.....

Good for you, sing out if theres anything you need help with. Not a bad little place with plenty of good rides locally.Local bike clubs fairly social and have plenty of organised rides etc if thats your thing.Anyways as i say sing out if you need anything and call round for a brew/beer etc once you get settled.

Well I used to live there but left 24 years ago to seek my fortune. Still looking for it btw. Nice place to live. I'd go back there for the right job.

Yep. Andy Bolwell is a good bloke. And Brad Selfe? I only remember him as just a nipper. Odd to see him mentioned in grown-up terms. Oh where have the years gone ... ?

the only big smoke in the area is when someone sits on the back porch and rolls one

First thing you need to do is work out how to pronounce the bloody place. (any locals want to confirm how it is pronounced?)

O Arm Are Roo.......not Om Roo.

We actually like the place, my daughter spent a year at Waitaki Girls during 06'.

Locals probably still pronounce it 'Oh-maru'. I still do.

As far as the 'big smoke' ... the stuff that came out of the Alliance Textiles' chimney used to be pretty big.

Good point about the pronunciation, guess as a ignorant honky I will just stick with Ohnm-a-ru. Going down on Sunday, have a small rented, power on so its all go. Haven't got a secure bike park but the bank has given its OK for us to buy a house as soon as we like.

If needed theres probably enough room in my garage for your bike until you get sorted, sing out if so.Theres also an outfit here with containers for rent if you need to store stuff until you get a house.

When I was growing up in Dunedin it was pronounced Oma-roo. When I lived there it was pronounced Oma-roo. My firends who still live ther call it Oma-roo. It's only the silly TV announcers who call it O Arm Are Roo.

"Call him any time" (yeah right)

Says an article in the Waitaki Herald news paper of the newly appointed manager of the (NOIC) North Otago Irrigation Company!

Even had an airbrushed (like Helen Clark did but marginally better looking!) picture!

Lists all the interests of the said appointee but fails to mention "motorcycling"! .... Not ashamed are we?

Could this be the one in the same KB Flip of this thread? :blip:
