How impressive it is to see an air bag suit! Production is not far away!
Pretty interesting. I see the armour becoming the airbags, as well as other areas of course. Seems logical to me. Armour on the outside and airbag on the body side.
And why can't they inflate like the Michelin Man? :) That would save some problems
...could get an ACC discount ;)

Perhaps because you might go bouncing down the road like a balloon..?

you have to wonder, had pedrosa had one of these on, would it have saved his collar bone at le mans? same for crutchlow at silverstone...
edit: whoops crutchlow uses spidi...

What happens when you have a big biff...the suit inflates, and you can't carry on because of that?

I'm sure that happened to Lorenzo lastyear with the Dainese one, lowsided into the sandpit, ran over to his bike to carry on, but the whole front of his zip had blown out.

na the guy in the video (at around 2:20) says the air bag deflates after about 20-25 seconds and is reusable a second time.

That's no good in the middle of a race though!

I kinda gathered that the suit, when inflated, is not all that immobilising...

I went further into the clip to have a proper gander...and it seems it may not be an issue. Pretty cool that it resets too!

Yeah. You get two inflations. Tough shit if you fall off a third time though...
Mind you. by then you might be discouraged anyway...

He is shorter than most 11 year olds too, I am sure. 5'2" and 103lbs - nevertheless he must have some big balls to be where he is today.

Do bikers' clavicles break due to direct impact or is it more from their arms and/or shoulders smashing into the ground?

I remember somewhere a while back (maybe just before the winter olympics) they were talking about these for downhill skiers, but they couldn't find any parameters for them that indicate a definite crash, or enough that wouldn't set them off all the time.
I think the closing comment was something like as far as dainese (i think) was concerned downhill skiers were in a constant state of crash, just occasioanlly they ended up at the end with their ski's pointed the right way. classic

Heheh, quite right.
Now....these should be available in about three or so years for off the shelf suits here in NZ. At a guess?
Excellent.
