 I have had bikes insured with Vero/ David Golightly for a few years now.
Those who know me, know I got rid of my Honda VT750C2 and got a HD Sporty.... so I got the new insurance papers, which outlined everything including the fortnightly auto payments.
It seems a HD Sporty worth $4000 more than a Honda cruiser, is $260 CHEAPER to insure!!!!!! I called to check the cheaper prices and I was told by David Golightly that he offers discounts to Harley Davidson owners as he feels they have less accidents!!! :gob: :gob: :gob:
Just thought I would share this happy news....

Might also have to do with his involvement with Rolling Thunder and HOG.
And if I recall, he was in part responsible for preventing people from handing out ACC pamphlets at Biketoberfest when news of the levy hikes went up. So was Rolling Thunder.
Edit - They were pamphlets calling for reform of ACC and to not have the huge levy hikes. "Anti-ACC" stuff was not allowed to be handed out at the bike event, as enforced by the mentioned people.

It is funny, I was in the AA and saw a sign at their insurance desk listing the motorbikes they won't insure - Harleys, Triumph, Ducatis, Nortons,
Dave has a Harley so he must be biased...

With the same insurer and am currently going through my claim process. Despite all the serious issues I have had with only a particular employee who is looking after my claim, they are coming through with the goods in every way. Still waiting for settlement after nearly 4 months, BUT, it will be pleasing the way they handled it thanks to my wonderful assessor (come on, pay out, I'm still paying the finance on the bloody thing!)
They were also the same price for my Boulevard m50, as it was for my R6. Much cheaper than the other 9 or 10 i got quotes from.
I've got my Bandit insured with Golighty, price was reasonable, $80 cheaper than what kiwibike quoted.

I'm surprised the Arsehole Association will insure any bikes...

Who cares if the guy is biased towards a particular brand?
If anyone can score full insurance for any bike at a fair premium good on them.
As long as the insurance co is still around if a claim needs to be dealt with.

AA is a no go, not even worth looking at.
I think the difference in insurance was $900 a year more with AA then the other one I went with.
Or the overhead was $900 more.
Oh, and when I said ACC phamplets... they weren't ones in support of ACC. They were ones trying to inform the punters to not settle for the huge levy rise. Have edited my post to be more clear.

golightly = treadlightly people
i know Dave and he is a top bloke the acc pamphlet kerfuffle was brought on by the people handing out the pamphlets not the people who had organised the event.

Classic timing. I have just checked my banking for the day and they have paid me out for my claim. I take back what I mentioned about about still waiting for payment. They have sure come through with the goods. They have paid me out for the bike, replaced my helmet and sent a cheque in the post for a cash settlement on my riding trousers. I will make sure that I stick with this company after all of this. Unfortunately I just had a very difficult person looking after me, but the company itself is highly recommended, and is definitely a competitive price.
Very pleased to have been with them. My assessor looked after me well, as did Dave and his team to begin with when I first swapped bikes on the policy. This is ace. Let the rebuild of the bike begin.

Um... there were people handing out bits of paper on a public road at a public event. There were in fact a lot of people handing out bits of paper of all sorts.
Except the ones that had an anti ACC levy write up, were specifically told to stop.
I received one of the bits of paper. Someone walked up to me and simply asked if I'd like an ACC levy pamphlet. Not what I'd call trouble making, or bringing on themselves.

I am ashamed to say I had a bike insured with the AA. I hit a oil slick on the Auckland motorway in a down pour, the bike hit the armco and was written off. I didn't have a scratch on me. The AA were the biggest bunch of cunts I have ever had to deal with. At one stage some manager there said to me "what did I expect for riding a motorcycle".
I have found John Baker to also be good, if you belong to Ulysses that is. I think is also a vero policy.

I,m insured with vero through golightly and had an a assessor look at my bike after it fell over in the quake. Bloke was fine but after being looked at in the workshop assessor says he will only pay for half the tank to be painted as there was a scratch from my belt buckle on the other half of the tank.! What fucking idiot assessor will do that ? Going to cost me 500 bucks to have it all done and I ,ve been paying full insurance for years on two bikes ........

I had a similar experience with State: had a house, contents and car insured with them, and they accused me of wanting to get an (expensive push) bike stolen so I could get the cash and trade in. Of course I had paid $3k for this bike (lot of money to a student) and they were going to give me $1800 and I didnt have the extra $1200 to chuck into replacement at the time. We changed insurers after that
