...but it aint here! No once again the UK shows more sanity by new guidelines that allows their teachers to defend themelves, breakup fights and remove unruly students. First you're allowed to defend yourself in your home from burglars and now teachers actualy being able to do their jobs!

British teachers have been given a green light to use ''reasonable'' physical force to control unruly students.
New guidelines published in England on Monday say it ''may not always be possible to avoid injuring pupils'' while using restraining techniques in the most extreme circumstances, British newspaper The Daily Telegraph reports.
Examples of such situations may include: removing disruptive students from classrooms, breaking up fights, and stopping attacks on teachers and pupils.
Some schools currently adopt a ''no contact'' policy to avoid being sued by guardians after children are restrained by staff, but the latest policy explicitly bans such policies, noting that teachers should not be automatically suspended for using ''excessive force''.
''For far too long teachers have been buried under guidance and reports on how to tackle bad behaviour,'' government adviser on classroom behaviour Charlie Taylor told the Telegraph.
''The new guidance will help teachers do their job without lessons being disrupted and schools to feel confident when they address behaviour issues.''
Under the guidelines, teachers will not require parental permission to use force.
However, staff should ''always try to avoid acting in a way that might cause injury, but in extreme cases it may not always be possible to avoid injuring the pupil''.
Furthermore, the guidelines state it is acceptable for staff to make physical contact under certain circumstances, including holding a child's hand, comforting distressed pupils or demonstrating sports techniques during PE classes, without fear of being accused of inappropriate conduct.
The changes come after news that major assaults on British school staff reached a five-year-high in 2010, when 44 were admitted to hospital.

Wonder if they can use force for self defence... I mean it doesn't state it in the article and goes out if its way to list everything but... too much of a grey area perhaps? Parents should sign a consent/waiver at the start of each term giving teachers the right to "discipline" their children... I have no problem with teachers smacking my kids if they deserve it... but only if they deserve it.

utter bullshit--The lefty wanky soft dickwads in Gubbiment passed laws that have reasonable parents fearfull to even smack a 3 year old having a tanty--meanwhile MORE kids are dying from child abuse --yep that law stopped em diddn't it

And look what the lefty rubberdick commie bast*rds have given us - worse scumbags than we've ever had coz no-one ever punished their poor behaviour.
The problem with the anti smacking law is that it was never needed. It has always been illegal to beat the crap out of your kids. Discipline is different - at least with the cane you had a punishment for bad behaviour. Now they have 'time out' - WTF is that?
"Go and think about what you've done Johnny."
"Fuck I enjoyed that shit. I'll do it again I mean, what are they gonna do?"

Funny.
I used to get the strap at primary school at least once a week....and caned at college often. If I hadnt had that discipline - id be a serial offender and spend most my life inside Id guess. Instead of it being turned around like its ended up. (Thank you Marist 70's/80's !! )
But these days. Hmm. Suspect all them pommy lawyers are rubbing their hands and advertising outside the schools. 'Reasonable force' for a Lawyer is like 'cheating' to the wallabies. All a matter of definition.

Nah, never allowed near the choir.
Yeah - the Maris Brothers and Fathers - some good old 'school' instruction. Helped a lot of problem kids sort their lives out.
And yes - every outfit has its miscreants - which has led to the 'turn the other cheek' etc etc jokes over the last 40 years or so. Over it.

I have a few little darlings I'd love to be able to use "reasonable force" on! I was horrified to find out we can't even officially keep them in after school without issuing 24 hours notice beforehand.
The thing is, I (ahem) accidentally pushed a kid into a carpeted wall once while breaking up a fight in my room. Was a large boy who was all threatening to have me up for assault (only got so far a the verbal threat  though) until I laughed in his face and rolled my eyes. He said I could have caused him brain damage - I had to bite my tongue to not say "I have no idea how you'd tell the difference".

To show that they are serious, they should issue individual teachers with tasers!

Wait a minute. You are in Manurewa but work on the Shore?
Otherwise......were the walls carpeted in concrete?
An old acquantance of mine went to James Cook high - some interesting stories about full contact rugby being played on concrete and steel poles...

yeah, that kinda thing is a big can of worms.
most kids are fine. there there are some that dont realise they are being ass holes, some dont mean to be, some cant help it because their brains are not wired up right during adolescence.
however, some of them are nasty little fuckers, but they are rare.
such is human nature though.thats what makes the job interesting.
