The date for the South Island rounds have been on the MNZ website and NZSBK for a while now,But they are the 1st,2nd and 3rd weekends of January,Hampton Downs on the weekend of the 16th of March and the date for Taupo is still to be confirmed although it will be the weekend prior to or straight after HD

So no Manfeild?? WTF

So no Manfeild?? WTF
Nobody wants to run a round there due to cost,Plus there were no dates available in March and the AMCC had already booked HD for the 16th which would have meant the South Island guys would have had to come north twice

Also wondering who is the bright spark who thinks holding the South Island rounds of the Nats during the peak of school holidays is "cost effective" in any way?!...

So far as race tracks go Taupo is pretty crap and if the weather is bad they will have to abandon the meeting like the VIC Club did if they run it at the right time it will be OK

Only way I can see there being at Manfeild round is if they run Taupo the week after Hampton Downs and then Manfeild the week following that. As MNZ have already stated they wanted to leave Feb free for Paeroa. Then of course you have too find somebody that wants to put their neck in the Manfeild noose!!

It'll be interesting to see a Nationals round at Taupo. There'll be quite a bit of celebrating but more cursing I reckon. Shame it isn't HD, Taupo AND Manfeild.

MNZ are never going to book the tracks that far in advance as they cant rely on the clubs for commitment,
As far as the timing of dates for the 2012 series goes,I'd suggest you direct your questions to the roadrace commission chairman,Not Kiwibiker,His contact details are available on the website nobody seems to visit

So Billy have I got this correct. Paeroa street race is now morw important than the NZ road race series. Good one so they organise the Nationals around 1 street race that no one gives a fuck about

The timing of the 3 south is rounds is decided by the clubs not MNZ/road race commission. We are also limited on dates when 3 consecutive weekends are available..... after all the car clubs have had there pick of the weekends we are presented with whats left.
In previous years we have followed the V8s by one week at each track..... this is a pain as the track is generally littered with debris (or remenants of last lap oil slicks) and the paying public have spent the previous weekend spending their "hard earned" at these meetings.
This year we were able to preceed the V8s which hopefully will give better track conditions and a chance to encourage punters to watch bikes instead.
Hope this makes some sense of it................... but as we know you cant please all the people all the time.

I think the crowd that goes to Paeroa would disagree with you
Having any events that you have to travel between islands at peak times is fairly silly though

No not at all,It was mostly to give the guys doing the Nationals a chance to recuperate and if anybody was keen to do Paeroa it would mean it wasnt between rounds,As I understand it the cock up was when AMCC booked their date without consulting anybody else and then there were no dates available at Manfeild

Yep............. i think AMCC had actually confirmed a date before us at MCC had finally decided.
But im sure they have the same problem of car clubs (and in case of HD every man & his dog) wanting track time/dates.

If you ask (I'd hazzard a guess) 90% of the teams competing at the NZSBK Championship they would tell you that they think January meetings in the middle of school holidays is exactly the time it should be:
Mechanics are available to travel
Most company's shut down at this time so no extra time off work for competitors / team members
More Holiday house accommodation is available to rent at this time
Plus I'm sure there are other ligit reasons too. MNZ and the clubs running them got this right this year (for point 1 alone!).

Sad to say mate,But thats never gonna happen,Its hard enough for most guys doing the Nats to make it now,If you increase the costs ten fold there wont be many fronting and thats what it will take to even get it to the same level as the cars.
As far as"here we go again",Not this Kiwi,Im gonna go have some fun myself this year and apart from 1 or maybe 2 juniors I'm not helping anybody out,When the chequered flag drops at Taupo(If they have a round there)Im done!!!

Obviously money is not an issue for some teams, who can afford Holiday homes, mechanics and all of January off. I think Sarah311, tongue in cheek, was referring to the 10% of us who work for a living, and who will be doing the Nats out of the back of a ute again.

Whooow there Billy,
As stated it is when the circuit is available mate and dates were flying out the door. As I understand it there were no dates available for Manfield anyway, taken up last year!! So no one to consult!
The car guys are the ones with the money and are filling their boots with weekend dates through the season at all of our circuits.
We are bloody lucky to have HD with a cost of 60k plus and the loss made last season, if we have a similar weekend there may be no rounds in the NI in 2013 :gob:

As you have probably noticed by now ,The clubs organise their own dates and obviously without consulting MNZ,The idea of leaving Feb free was suggested too me by an MNZ official,Add too that the fact the only club interested in running a round at Manfeild was MCC and theres your reason why theres no round there,Cant please everybody as Swerve has already stated,Of course theres nothing stopping you getting off your butt and helping MOMCC to organise a round there,Its not like the Shirriffs name is unheard of within the club!!!!

I'll take that at face value RobGassit in that you are not referring to me with this post. I hate to think of what I have invested into this sport $$$ wise (just like you no doubt) and it really doesn't matter what team you are in or not, money is ALWAYS an issue. Bigger team, bigger bills. The 10% you refer to that 'work for a living' mostly would find it easier to take your annual leave in January when most company's shut down. This was partly the point. January is more suitable for more people.

Billy,
you should know that that statement especially with those punctuation thingies at each end; on KiwiBiker; means it's compulsive lie done under the influence of drugs.

Anyway good on the south island clubs for getting in ahead of the cars.
Running one week after a lot of people simply don't want to go to a race track two weekends in a row...

Tonque in cheek you say? 99% of racers work Rob and do it out of a van or ute. It is the NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIP, so if you want to chase it, get a 2nd job and stop crying about what it costs, or just stick to the Club Scene racing EASY MATE

Unfortunately whatever dates are set for the south island they are never going to suit everyone, in saying that apart from last year the si dates have for as long as i remember, been in jan and that works pretty well. With the dates being set this far out cheap ferry fares are available ie van & 1 passenger return $366.00. Accomodation costs have more to do with whats happening in town that weekend than time of year so generally no dearer on a busy weekend in jan than any other month.
Also thanks to the efforts of Billy we'll hopefully be seeing a few younger riders in street stock school hols will make getting there alot easier for them.

I wouldn't think that was the consideration, more so that Paeroa is a significant event (sorry no denying that) and some riders who do the Nationals would also like to do the Paeroa event as well, but being so close to a nationals round it did make it tricky for them.
I think its brilliant as hopefully the fields will be bigger this year.

Billy you should know better than most people, MNZ don't own the track bookings - the club's are the ones siging the contract.
With regards to AMCC - hell I reckon they should be commended for getting a date nailed as soon as they did, noting that this is similar timing to what has been run in recent history - March. Someone has to be first and why should they wait if it workable, plus it's a stick in the ground.
Cheers ears.

Thanks Shaun for your reply. It wasn't my intention to whine about costs or even dates really. It is what it is and that's the same for all. We had just costed out our doing the 5 rounds and the peak prices during January had to be factored in. So be it. We enjoyed the Nats so much last season, even running a Korean rental, that we are ripping the mirrors and indicators off Sarah's road bike to give it another bash. It's all good.:scooter:
