Bike covers and strong winds = blown over bike?

hey guys, just got a cover for my bike (finally) but one concern - i live top of brooklyn hill - you know up by the wind turbine, which is up there for a reason.. nice strong winds. anyway I'm just a bit concerned that by covering my bike with what looks like a sail may equal a blown over bike during the night... never been a problem while it's been uncovered but yeah...

was wondering if anyone's ever had/heard of this ever being a prob or whether I'm just being stupid :weird: ...

I have never heard of that happening... But I suppose it could happen.

But really secure the cover down tight...
around the wheels and also underneath its belly.
Make sure the cover is tied on firm, so that not too much wind can blow the cover around.

Do a we check of it, every couple of hours, until you feel that you have got it down pat, the tie downs etc......

Where we live in Ngaio we bear the brunt of a good norwester. We used to nose both bikes in at the front of our car deck under their covers. That is until one day Mrs H's previous Marauder got blown over against the railings, bending the handlebars and some other minor damage. Since then Mrs H's bike gets backed into place so that in case of wind, it's leaning on its stand. A fully-rugged bike stops a lot of wind. So be careful!

Sam and I both have covers for our bikes, and they've been in some strong winds and have never been blown over... but do make sure to tie the cover down (or use the little clip thingy they come with) to secure it... only disadvantage of bike covers... nosey kids might wanna know whats under there... some kids up our road at our old place got all curious and one of our flatmates caught them trying to lift the cover to see what was under it, and when our flatmate shouted out they freaked out and somehow knocked the bike over... but thats about the biggest risk you'll have :)

[Edit] Oh and remember that when you take the cover off, to either place it somewhere to hang dry or if it is dry to put it inside, sucks putting a wet/dirty cover over your bike... makes for extra un-needed cleaning

If it gets really windy.... yes,it happened to me on Xmas morning one year.... merry fecin xmas... cost me over £500 to fix all the broken bits... fit some tie downs and pull the fecker down on it's side stand
