Our Haier dishwasher is old and will be replaced. (Just normal wear and tear). Smiths City has a very good deal going this weekend so we want to buy if we can.

We are looking at a Delonghi DW28SS model for $550 odd but can find no reviews on the 'net. I have found one review on another Delongi dishwasher which wasn't complimentary.

Any comments on quality of dishwashers by Delonghi, Haier, F&P and Simpson would be appreciated. Not interested that F&P is a NZ company. They are made overseas now and anecdotal evidence is that quality is average.

I was looking at one of the small Asian models, I figured if I removed a couple of shelves under the kitchen bench she could slide in out of the way when not at the sink doing dishes.

The wife's objections were expected, but the cost of a cup of rice a week is what fucked it for me.

Apparently ... there are a few Russian models on/in the market .... multi function models ... apparently ... :innocent:

My experience: F&P dishwashers cause trouble. Mainly in the way the door latches and control panels assemble together.

However, I can't tell you what's better as that's all I've been stuck with...

Our F & P lasted very well, (7-8 years?) but it was getting expensive: over the course of its life it had new baskets, new seals a couple of times and other servicing. We replaced it earlier this year when it needed another set of seals and a new latch, with a Bosch. We got the Bosch because it was the quietest one. Its good, but because it is all eco green and stuff it cleans very well, but doesn't dry that well which pisses me off. But it is really quiet. Got some deal at Hardly Normal and it was ~$1300 or so down from $1800 they said. I looked at it as being about $200 more than the equiivalent F & P but with features I wanted.

We had a bottom of the line simpson with a dial timer and no electronics, never had a problem with it.

The salesman told us he could sell us a flash haier one for the same money, and recommended buying the basic simpson instead.

I have become very unimpressed with F&P stuff over the last few years.

Why don't you just get married instead ?

We have a bit of F&P, but the dishwasher is now just a storage unit. We won't be buying any more of their gear, mainly due to the move offshore but as others have said, it's not all that much cop anyway.

We've had F&P Dishdrawers for years. Left the first set at our last house, all it required in 5 years was a new switch which was a known fault. When we bought this house 7years ago we put in new dishdrawers and recently got them overhauled with a new control board and extra waterproofing for the board, cost $300 or so.

Never had any real issues with them and like the convenience of two drawers, only using one most of the time but having the extra capacity when having people around for dinner/BBQ's. They always clean and dry well and I'd never have anything else.

What was involved in "extra waterproofing for the board" (I assume this is the mains filter board, which is in the bottom of the cabinet.
Our d/drawer has died again (F1 error, mains filter board) replacement is only $60 odd but I'd like it to last more than a year at a time.
the unit has already had the new tub lids/seals and all four lid actuators replaced - there was no water in or on the board.

Would get F&P washing machine, not a dishwasher tho.
as above Bosch VERY good!, don't know anything about Delonghi but at assumption level I'd say their a cheap brand name & thus not shit but mediocre in performance/reliability much like a F&P maybee slightly worse??? but like I said this is assumption level.
Simpson I'd put with F&P, Haier I believe are just below the Bosch level

Not sure but it was an upgrade to the latest type. The drawers were in good nick, only being 6 years old. I don't know if we're just luckier than others but really, we can't complain about either the performance and reliability of them over the years or the service we receive from our local 100% Store.

Roger that, the locally made models are generally more expensive, seem to run more noisily and have a higher maintenance cost. The cheaper Asian and some eastern european versions do a fantastic job and will last a lot longer. Can't say about their trade in value but you can just get a new one when you wear them out! And actually some of the imported ones are stunning looking pieces of machinery too when compared to the local models.

AEG.

The quietest most reliable machine on the market. We have had one for 15 years with no repairs, no blockages, no breakages...boring really. It just keeps working.
But expensive.

Consumer say the low-end Simpson http://www.noelleeming.co.nz/shop/kitchen-laundry-appliances/dishwashers/simpson-52c850wk-dishwasher-white/prod43796.html is a good machine. Seen it for $700 on special. Apart from that they recommend Asko but its not cheap.

You do get what you pay for with dishwashers. The expensive European ones tend to be high quality. I have an aged F&P d/w as well and despise the thing. Barely works. There are lots of problems with the Dishdrawer models which is a shame because its an inspired design.

We have F&P Dishdraws, Had to have them fixed twice within 18 months, once was a flood switch and the other was a complete meltdown of the bottom draw, even had to replace the wiring.
That was all done under warranty but the sparky that fixed it the second time asked the mrs to put some wash powder in it for him, and then said she was putting way too much powder in it and the lids couldn't cope with the amount of suds that was being produced.
From then on we used the finish power ball thingies and it's never missed a beat since.
Still don't think I would buy another F&P Dishwasher.

We have really hard water here in WA & the build up of CaCO3 kills dishwashers in about 8 years. I'd be extremely reluctant to buy anything F&P EVER again. We're still 100% F&P in this house but the last fridge has turned us off them big time...

Thanks for the input everyone. Purchase made at cost plus 10% plus GST. $640. Oh, another Haier by the way. Scored a free 12 place dinner setting and some dishwashing powder with it too.

Sounds like a good deal, well done. May it give many years of reliable service!
