After a EQ delayed start to my relationship with a new MTS, I finally got my hands on her last week:woohoo:....and was the weather just grand for the occasion:cold:....

I managed to get a small 700km day ride:scooter:, Chch to Fairlie then over Mckenzie Pass to Burkes pass and into the back of Benmore and a pootle up the Hakataramea valley from the north....and what a bike...I am very impressed....It makes parting with the other Ducs not as painful as I was expecting.

Back in Kz now looking forward to October and the GC....:woohoo:

And as a parting shot....Guess there are not many Ducs that get mentioned in the Adventure Dual Purpose forum:bleh:

Nice bike, place and ride.

After seeing those pics I don't think I can say much about riding on a wet road ever again.

At my age I'd need an electric body suit plus the hand warmers and seat warmer! :bye:

Nice bike and nice pics in a beautiful country! Goodonyer! :first:

Nice road bike.

Yup nice road bike as well....

It was a good day, although there was the odd shower of rain occasionally

Hand warmers are a treat....first set I have had and were worth while....yup I am not as tough or foolhardy as I once was.

Gear...nothing special, I had my full admiral Spidi suit in the pannier....Boots, long johns, Draggin jeans with knee pads, Icebreaker sweater, medium fleece, A windbreaker jacket sealed around neck waste and sleeve cuffs, and a heavy leather jacket....heated grips seemed to keep body a bit warmer.

yup traction control....great on road but the std "enduro" setting was to invasive on the dirt I felt....I have since learned how to change the setting further in the menu.

ABS...well....this is my first bike with ABS and not soon off the tarmac and I was confidently grabbing a fist full of front brake and slowing down gently....great to have but I am concerned it may be dumbing down my riding skills and wonder how it will affect my braking on a non ABS bike.

Yay! It's about time you got to finally enjoy her. Nice pics too.

Don't you wish you had shaft drive for all the gravel roads now?

nice looking bike, thanks for sharing, that is some of the best riding in NZ. But I have to say riding in that Ice with those tires is....well.....downright cruelty to traction control :gob:

Great bike LBD.Is that your old duck in Casbolts? Yup....although I beleive the monster is sold....1098 still available

Don't you wish you had shaft drive for all the gravel roads now? That would be the only disadvantage that comes to mind

But I have to say riding in that Ice with those tires is....well.....downright cruelty to traction control :gob: That is what it is designed for...admitidly it was working double time/all the time. I have subsequently learnt how to reduce the sensitivity of the traction control in the enduro mode so will try that next time

Bollocks....who really needs more than 300km range and 2 heated vests, heated grips, 2 x 35W "Fog" Lamps GPS and detector?

Of that list, my mini-adventure bike has grips...

Oh, and a 35w 6v headlight.

it is fit for my purpose...single and 2 up touring and and longer endurance rides...but you are right, for an adventure bike a DR400 would be about right for me

nothing wrong with 6v,
that 12v wouldn't fix

O/T
NordieBoy, ever thought about those 6v billion candlepower spotting lights they sell in places like supercheap? More the bulbs and lens that the whole thing

Most excellent.

The TDM is a most respectable bike on all roads....heaps of low down torque, great for adventure.

Tis so, constantly surprise's with it's ability. I used to ride on snow & ice without a care but not now. My talent has diminished & my fear has grown. Great to see the Ducati doing what it says on the packet.
