My FXR is my first bike, I got it a couple weeks ago. The air filter was a bit rooted so I was looking for another one and I'm pretty sure someone in my house threw the cage part in the bin

I'm gonna go ahead and put a pod filter on it. What kind of work will need to be done to get it running well with the extra air flow and would I be able to do it myself or do I need to take it to a shop? Or would anyone like to help me out?

It seems you bucket guys know the most about FXRs so figured this was the best place to ask.

Id think it would need a rejet, unless they are injected?

Na, carbureted.
I asked the guy at HoleShot Suzuki and he said it would need a new main jet. I'm not sure if there would be any other things necessary or how difficult it would would be to do.

Piece of cake so long as you get the right sized jet

I'm not allowed to post on the fxr150 site but they suggest a 117.5 main jet for stock carb and pod filter.

Where would I get a new jet and how can you tell if it's the right size?

Trial and error,

I had a quick look on TM couldnt see much, either you try and get some off shore, or just take the hit to the wallet and go to the shop, they will most likely sonic clean the carbs, balance then dyno tune.

more hassle than its worth for the road. Pods are a mixed bag (more crap than good) unless you spend $$ & they get wet & are noisy. Keep to stock. Kel's the man with that offer.

I've already paid for the pod but I suppose it'll still end up cheaper since I won't have to get it tuned.
The pod sounded like a pretty flash idea

Contact this dude for jets. http://www.trademe.co.nz/services/trades/automotive/auction-382747864.htm . Great guy and had a ton of carb parts. He sells pods and jet kits to. Had bits for my old carbs that Honda said they couldnt get.

Well now I've just been searching around and didn't realise there were negative effects of swapping the airbox for a pod filter.

That'll teach me...

sell it on, someone racing might want it. Heck, swap it with Kel if he's giving you a box.

Grant and I are going to form a conspiracy to make you feel shit, win win that way.
Re the airboxes, don't really care who he gets one off, whatever is easy, just let one of us know. The part of Auckland the reciepent resides in may have some bearing on a desired course of action but since we are both out westish and can both deliver to Mt Wellington next weekend it probably won't matter that much either way.
