View Full Version : In Case of Emergency - I.C.E
I.C.E – Not the slippery sort but a habit that growing in practice across the UK. It’s the entry of a mobile phone number entitled I.C.E - In Case of Emergency - in your own mobile phone. This number corresponds to someone you'd like to be contacted in case of emergency. So should you happen across someone unfortunate enough to have been involved in an accident - firstly dial 111 (of course) then take a peek in their mobile phone's directory for a number entitled I.C.E - and give their requested contact a ring.
Damned good idea if you ask me.

You should copyright that! 'tis a good idea, but there would have to be widespread understanding what it meant. I could see it catching on quick, what with all the communication between people these days.

Maybe you should make this a sticky post and tell every biker you know... then at least if a biker stops at an accident they will know to look for it... and hopefully it will be there...

already did it from the other thread it came up in.
Tip tho: Add 'a' or 'aa' to the front, then it'll be the first number on your phone. Worst thing is to be scrolling thru someone else's phone in a panick.
My phone has: 'a I.C.E. Ashley' & 'aa I.C.E.2 Kelly'
Only down side is when Ash and Kelly call/text me, this is what comes up now. But I'm happy to live with that. I also have the same thing (with their numbers) on a piece of paper, incase the phone is damaged or the battery comes off (pass number to switch it on). It's a great idea, as long as the phone still works!!

I have ICE in my phone already, but it is the number for ice. Which is good for bruising, so may be useful.

Surely more "good luck" than "good management"?
Nothin' to do with mobile fucken phones though, I hate it with a passion but find myself for some reason addicted to it.

That's scary you're about the same age as me. I must admit the cell phone was abit of a bonus when I was in the back of the ambulance on the way to hospital. After the very helpful ambo chap (top fellow) had dialled my home number I was able to let the family know that I was corpus mentum, etc.
Always travel with my phone.

Could use the same excuse my Dad does. If he had a cell phone my mom would be calling him non stop asking this and that and "can you pick this up for me?" and such. I know it's true though. She calls me for all that crap now.:oi-grr:

I feel the same way about intercoms - there is nothing I have to say when riding a motorcycle that can't wait till we stop

bugjuice suggested something to me. personally I prefer it since its the first thing in a phone book. my brother is on AAA EMERGENCY CONTACT which should hopefully be obvious enough. maybe if you could get the ICE thing onto the news or somehing so when a cager stops to pull my body out of some tree's he will have a little memory flashback thing and look for it.
hmmm. instead of hijacking, theres a thread about where you keep your phone here: http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=14035

HA HA!!!! - I emailed Cambell (TV3) with exactly that thought - human interest story and all that...
I was also thinking it'd be worth contacting Vodaphone, or possibly the mobile phone makers to have them make the number (ICE = 423) available outside of the phone lock...
Even if the phone is locked, you phone 423 and it rings whoever you need it to (admittedly the phone owner would pay for the cal...)

And me.
When I was in the back of the ambulance, the very helpful ambo chap gave me his phone to use. It was a bit of a crack-up, as I phoned work to let them know I wouldn't be in.
"Oh - that's no good! Where are you?"
"Actually, I'm right outside the office, in the back of an ambulance."

ICE – In Case of Emergency
A campaign encouraging people to enter an emergency contact number in their mobile phone's memory under the heading ICE (In Case of Emergency), has rapidly spread throughout the world as a particular consequence of last week's terrorist attacks in London.
Originally established as a nation-wide campaign in the UK, ICE allows paramedics or police to be able to contact a designated relative / next-of-kin in an emergency situation.
The idea is the brainchild of East Anglian Ambulance Service paramedic Bob Brotchie and was launched in May this year. Bob, 41, who has been a paramedic for 13 years, said: "I was reflecting on some of the calls I've attended at the roadside where I had to look through the mobile phone contacts struggling for information on a shocked or injured person. Almost everyone carries a mobile phone now, and with ICE we'd know immediately who to contact and what number to ring. The person may even know of their medical history."
By adopting the ICE advice, your mobile will help the rescue services quickly contact a friend or relative – which could be vital in a life or death situation. It only takes a few seconds to do, and it could easily help save your life. Why not put ICE in your phone now? Simply select a new contact in your phone book, enter the word 'ICE' and the number of the person you wish to be contacted. More than 1 next of Kin ICE1, ICE2, ICE3. etc
Not a bad idea for bikers on the road.

Least ICE sounds like a standard rather than having numbers at the start of the phonebook.
Shoving them into my fone now!

as a good idea - butit needs to be common enough so that the rescue, crash people etc always remeber to check there. Would be good if someone like St Johns got behind a publicity campaign. Mean while just keep telling your friends and family. Would also be very useful if your cellpone was lost.
