View Full Version : End of an era

Well, it's the end of an era. For six and a half years the RF900R has seen me through cold and wet, hot and dry, and shown unfailing loyalty with only minor breakdowns (carbs) and only asking for petrol, oil, chains, sprockets, tyres, replacement carbs (worn out plastic bits) and brake discs in return. I've spent more than I paid for it in petrol, and let's not get started on motor vehicle levies and insurance. But it was worth every cent. Well done Mr Suzuki and co. A brilliant bike. But it's just about to roll over to 000000 miles again, and a new GSF1250S is gracing the garage so the RF is being retired from active service and for me to consider what to do with it now. It needs a new gearbox and a respray but everything else is fine. It will be back, better than every one day!

Top effort, that bike! It will be interesting to see whether Mr Suzuki's liquid-cooled offerings are up to the same prodigious longevity.

Good horse those RF's. Great commuter. Ecconomical tourers. Fairly comfortable. Genuine 260kph top end. Mint for long distance wheelies. And above all, capable of cutting 75 second laps on stock 100,000kay old suspension at Manfeild and OWNING F1 bikes. Also hold the world average speed record for 24 hours on a 900cc bike IIRC too. Nice.

I'm sure the Technically A Bandit will prove they are.

Well at times like this, there's only one alternative.

Go for another 100k miles. :scooter:

Still looks nice even with those miles on it!

Why do people keep tempting me with these beasts? It must be a sign that I need to trade the 600 on one :love:

Cool.
Just loose it. You've run it into the ground and got full value.
Once you start riding newer bikes you won't go back to it.
It's like playing your first $35 guitar again.

Great bike, nice to see one taken around the clock rather than thrown down the road
