This may sound a little odd but i am curious about the time reduction from restricted to full when over 25.

I and currently 24 and got my learners on the 14/6/2011 so in theory i should be going for my restricted on the 14/12/2011 and then onto my full if i do a defensive driving course on the 14/12/2012.

But what I am curious about is that i turn 25 on the 9/5/2012 so does that mean that the time i have to spend on my restricted instantly becomes only 6 months so i can sit my full on the 14/6/2012 or is it sort of pro-rata'd?

Cheers to anyone that can help my conundrum.

Good question. Have you tried ringing NZTA or whoever it is that issues licences?

...a defensive driving course cuts six months of the wait does it not?
Which means you can sit you full on the 14/6/2012 anyway..

@ Str8 Jacket

I haven't as of yet but am going to today to confirm.

@Maha

Sadly no as without doing a defensive driving course below 25 years of age the time between restricted and full is 18 months, so the defensive cuts it down to 12.
also if your over 25 the defensive cuts it down to 3 months

Yep it cuts 6 months off the 18 he has to be on his restricted for. A loooong time!

As for the origional question, i'm in exactly the same boat, I turn 25 in a couple of weeks and plan on booking my full straight away, so I can give a difinitive answer shortly.
