Clip on to flat bars [Archive]

Hey guys

I am riding a 2003 gs1200ss and am wondering if anyone here has any advice on converting the clip-ons to flat bars. For everyday commuting, I find flat bars would be nice but am at a bit of a loss as to how to go about it.

Do they make adapters, almost like clip on risers that flat bars can be placed in or am I looking at having to replace the triple clamps etc?

I recently fitted flat bars to a MC19 front end,I had to drill mounting holes in the top clamp is all but That wasn't a issue as I wont be using clipons on that bike anyway...the adapters cost me around $50 I think

That looks like the goods! Where abouts did you buy the risers from? Would need to take the triple clamp off to drill it? Or drillable on the bike?

The ones I have are Accel brand..Any bike shop will be able too get them for you,best you take the top clamp off the bike so you can drill dead centre its not a job you wana stuff up...

Either put clamps on the upper triple clamp or get some Heli-bars (http://www.helibars.com/). You may not be able to get GS1200SS ones exactly, but something will fit.

Remember that you may need new brake and clutch lines (or cable) and throttle cables as well.

The ones I have are Accel brand..Any bike shop will be able too get them for you,best you take the top clamp off the bike so you can drill dead centre its not a job you wana stuff up...

And so you can avoid drilling through some ribbing etc.

A fella I work with just done something similar,
he took a rough drawing to one of the machining firms and basicly, he made a plate the same size and shape as the triple clamp and had the flat raisers put on that and then bolted to the standard triple, looks real good, its that or you get the adaptors and have them welded straight onto the triple.
Or as mentioned get ones with bolts and bolt them straight on.
