They're not that bad ... not too many have died from them ...

I've had a good few since I started riding bikes. Never had any problem, and neither have they ever injected any dye into me.

They don't make for as good pictures to take home as Xrays.

CT is quick and easy, haven't ever had any dye injections for them only for MRI

I am feeling a bit better.

About shit when I read they could inject dye into me :shit: I dont react well to that sort of thing. I am planning to leave work, go and get CT'd and go back to work?

The Nil by Mouth for 2 hours prior thing has got my brain working is all.

ANY benefit outweighs ... etc ...

The two I have had took about 1 minute for the broken arm and about 30 seconds for the sinuses

When you're used to having MRI you hardly even notice the CT

I didn't have anything injected for my MRI. I wish I had injected some earplugs. The noise was intense.

I've had about 12 of the things, at least half with dye (actually called contrast). No big deal, except that the contrast gives you a serious hot flush and can make you feel like you've shit yourself and pissed your pants.

MRI is the worst, being in that bloody tube getting microwaved with all that banging and crashing going on. I've had a dozen of them and had contrast every time.
It depends what they want to see.

Nice! I already suffer the "hot flushes" from Nam! It makes my blood pressure go so high I am about to have a 24 hour telemetry blood pressure test, with a view to whether I need more BP medicine. Last time they fuckt with my meds I spent 8 days in hospital and attempted to pop my clogs.

Shitting and pissing at the same time is something I will really look forward to

Even feeling like that is what I have done will be enough :shit:

CT is silent. It is simply xray slices of your body (doby). Apparently I should not be pregnant, that is not anything I should be worried about :woohoo:

I should be more concerned that I type doby for body apparenty :shit:

I had one for my lungs when I had my accident. (Apparently my lungs decided they didn't want to do their job anymore, which kinda put me in an awkward situation...).

The only problem is they missed the vein and squirted the stuff into my muscle instead. It really, really hurt, so I recommend asking them to please make sure the needle is in a vein. Once they got that sorted it was no problem and although I did feel a bit of heat from it, I really can't say anything to put you off.

I had the contrast once but that was for a MRI, they did it while I was being X rayed to make sure it went in the right spot, the contrast had no effect on me whatsoever

Bender

Yeah good point, it does affect people differently - I'm just susceptible to the stuff. To me it tastes like I've got a mouthful of nails as well.

Mom the CT with contrast is no worse than having an X ray and blood test at the same time.

Had CT, MRI, CAT ( I think it was a burmese....) and all sorts over the years. The dye colours your blood and feels rather warm.

CT is no issue, and it is not too clostrophobic. Just lie there, relax and think of England.... especially when wearing a hospital gown.

Ahhhh..... good times

That's a pretty good description, and it gives you a metallic taste in your mouth.
I was actually violently sick when the "contrast" hit my stomach :puke:

I had a PSI thing too. Not sure if it's the same thing, but if it is then "have the guts" is quite applicable lol.

I've never had any of those, but that dye shit, is that the radioactive stuff?
My daughter has chronic renal failure, and when we had a scan on her kidneys, they took us to a room in nuclear medicine and injected her with this radioactive dye.
Fuggin scary too see ya baby getting an injection with that symbol painted on the side of it. Anyway she had a bad reaction to it that made her sick for a few days,
Is that the same stuff?

Glad I am not the only one to have the berium enema .. got to admit that i have never seen shit sink so fast after that one.

Personally I haven't had a CT scan but plenty of MRI's, I have also the audacity to not sign the paperwork allowing them to use contrast dyes. Don't personally see the point for me (and don't really what to know how much additional damage I have to look forward to!)

I've had about every scan going do far... Barium enema and meal, (If you think lying exposed to all while they squirt it up your rear is bad enough, try having to drink the stuff!) Several MRI's, CT scans and x-rays galore, with and without dye.

Nowadays the biggest issue is my veins are fragile and the last infusion I had, (for Osteoporosis), was a tricky exercise for the Doc.

Sadly, I dont seem to need too much injected dye or what have you, I can "fluff" with the best of them

I am back from the most non event of my life. I am almost embarrased I asked the question.

I have had one dye scan, many years ago, it cost me a couple of babies, such were the side effects that I had and that had to wear off. Yes, I had the hot flash back then, but I was kinda hoping things had improved. Your answers were not that reassuring to be fair  I was frankly shitting large impossible to pass, bricks, facing down this CT.

I have chronic sinusitus. Apparently because I smoke  Well that was the reason they never investigated before this. 18+ months off the baccy and this is the worst I have ever suffered.

I went to Waitakere Hospital (never been there before). Parked up and walked to the Main Entrance, found radiology and let them know I was there. I was early, I did not know how long it took to get from work to there. Long story short. I was back in my car less than half an hour from the time I drove in. NO DYE :woohoo:

Lets hope they find something really bad, that needs dealing with immediately  It wont be life threatening, but bad enough I wont have to wait a very long to get sorted.

You lucky lucky bugger, everytime I have a CT I have to drink contrast fluid, usually raspberry or orange flavour with a hint of metalic aftertaste, not to mention diaorhea for about 2-3hours,and I mean water no shit.
I have to have the dye,and only side effect is a nice warm feeling as it winds through the veins, neat feeling though, and smell of paint thinners lol.

Had MRI last month, drank 3x450mls cream solution, prior, nice thick milkshake consistancy but not as flavoursome, but at least I was given ear muffs, bloody loud.

Also I don't mind the dye,had enough bad shit infused in system so it unfazes me,but understand others aingst.

zero sympathy from me for any health that "IS" smoking related, I sooner see the health effort and money go to child cancer rather than weaklings that do it to them selves (ohhh fark Im so out a here.............................................. ...:scooter:

i have had 10 of them, all over a 6 week period, all with (contrast the die you drink)

(they sent me down for no 11 but the radiographer reckons i was going to start glowing soon)

as put above they are not to bad, i think much easier than a MRI where you go into a big tube, they are pretty easy going,

I dont smoke. Have not smoked for 18 months or more. I have suffered with sinus for a very long time. The doctors used to say it was because I smoked. Now they are silent, as it is ten times worse since I stopped smoking.

No, I have held off doing that, pity it is not summer, I would simply get in the tide and blow my brains out in the surf.

There mere thought of pouring water up my nose leaves me cold, and knowing my luck I would end up inhaling the stuff.

Mom, You shoulda asked nursey Jen about it. She knows most of that stuff, from both sides...then you'd have known there was nothing to worry about. As for the dye stuff, I had it and didn't notice anything.....more shit myself when I went for the MRI, coz I've had a fair bit of metal bits stuck in me (including the eyes) over the years... :shit:

I have never been so sick as I have been since I stopped smoking. Blood pressure through the roof, chronic sinus, stomach ulcer, shortness of breath (had a lung function test and passed that with flying colours), allergic reactions to drugs supposed to make me better  Have had 3 lots of antibiotics since March, my BP is causing so much concern I am booked to have a 24/7 telemetry monitor so see what percentage of the day I am in danger mode. As I am allergic to most BP medications it they want to be certain I really need to take something else.

Because I am so special I get to be tested before they prescribe, which is kind of nice.

ATM just totally over not sleeping at night for the coughing, the feeling of being totally choked all the time, the headaches, the blocked ears (deafness) and the totally delightful gagging that accompanies the cough, very attractive I must say
