I thought this would be quite a good place to ask since KB has a quite a lot of politically head-strong people. One of my staff has an assignment on the Political Spectrum of NZ. She's been asked to place the parties along a line Left to Right with a brief explanation of why. Any help would be much appreciate. I just said National is Centre-Right, Act is Right, Labour is Centre Left, Progressives and Maori and Greens to the left of Labour but not sure what order. Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers

The only party remotely approaching anywhere near left of centre is the Green party....and they aint what would truely be considered to be left wing

Old rider will be along soon to suggest that everyone in parliament currently are a bunch of socialists but he has either gone senile or he sits further right than Genghis Khan

LOL. I just got this from Wikipedia

Labour (Centre-Left)
National (Centre-Right)
Greens (Left to Far-Left)
Progressives (Left)
Act (Right)
New Zealand First (Centrist [4] anti-immigration)
Legalise Marijuana Party (Stoned)
Maori Party (Maori Rights)[5]

LOL at the position of the Legalise Marijuana Party

All parties ultimately become centre parties. Why? Because they poll people. That means they are ultimately gravitated to middle New Zealand. That's because there are few voters at the extremes. The voting spectrum is like that good old bell curve that statisticians and other mathematical modellers are familiar with.

New Zealand's "centre", compared with where some other countries are, is left leaning. Our politicians like passing laws and meddling in others' lives.

The Greens, Maori Party, Mana Party, Jim Anderton Party have no intention of ever being a Government. Their support comes from minority interests and fringe nutters, sometimes both combined. Whitey isn't going to bugger off, Stalin isn't going to rise from the dead, and organic aromatherapy isn't going to make your bicycle go faster.

A decent fart inside the leathers does however somehow seem to make the ride warmer on a winters day.

All "Political Speculums" are centre and only vary in size as they try and jam them up your arse!

All the parties in this nation are centre-left

As someone else said, go centre to get more votes.

Posted this in the other thread but does this type of outlook sound familiar to a few of you?

True!

Congratulations Hitcher, you and I are right over here with Genghis Khan, according to the confused observations of Mr short-circuit!

The fishing ground is so far left of centre, the fishermen have to fish accordingly !

Whatever smokes your tyres SC.

The point Hitcher made:

New Zealand's "centre", compared with where some other countries are, is left leaning. Our politicians like passing laws and meddling in others' lives.

Is where I also believe we are at, the politicians model themselves to that point "only" to curry favour from the voters.

Politicians will lean in any direction they need to gain votes and stay in parliament!

NZ needs a little more "right" thinking to bring us closer to true centre, the politicians will follow the voters!

My only criticism of you is your "apparent" undying belief that Labour will provide you with the political result that you desire!

Having long ago been in the political position that you appear to be in, I can guarantee that they (Labour) will disappoint you!

Rather than satisfaction, the average NZ voter only votes for those that will disappoint them the least, how negative is that!

At least you do think about it, that's got to be a plus in today's world! :niceone:

Me, I don't think any of them on offer are much good and at this point don't know where I will cast my votes next election!
